Wonderful!
I cannot say enough good things about this series of books. Each book contains an adorable bookmark with it! (Am I the only one obsessed with bookmarks?)đThis book is called âYasmin the Painterâ and talks about how Yasmin enters a painting contest in her school and starts off feeling like she is not good enough but ends up using her imagination to complete her paintingâ¤ď¸ This is perfect for beginner readers and the reading level says KG to 2nd. My son is in second and easily got through it. There are three chapters of 4 to 6 pages and vivid illustrations that helped even my four year old understand the story. I love that at the end, there was a page for urdu words (Yasmin is Pakistani-American), a page for info on Pakistan, a page with a cute craft on it, and a page with questions for the children to think about! The series is perfect at showing the diversity in Muslim children of immigrants growing up in America while also being totally relatable and cool!A must buy! I even suggest Islamic schools stock up on this wonderful seriesâ¤ď¸

great story of overcoming the inner critic
This has been an enjoyable cultural "window" book for my kid, who loves making art and can really identify with Yasmin's struggles with her inner critic. I wasn't entirely thrilled with how the competition element is handled; on the other hand, after many re-reads, my kid is still wiggling with glee at the point where Yasmin's name is announced as the winner!Out of the four Yasmin stories that my family has read so far, I can also see why this one was chosen for the Kid Lit Collective summer reading list for 2019. It includes both Yasmin's mother and father being supportive; her racially diverse classroom environment; Principal Nguyen; and a black famous artist. And for bonus diversity, her teacher, Ms. Alex, is a white woman depicted with a quite short haircut, which is something else I've been looking for in picture books lately.I think fans of books like Peter H. Reynolds' "The Dot" would also enjoy this; I feel like they're both dealing with a similar part of the creative process. I could really see the two books being paired in a classroom.

Young artist finds her own style
"Yasmin The Painter" is a follow-up Yasmin adventure, which places the beloved character in the midst of a school art competition. Yasmin doesn't feel confident in her art, but she gives it a go when Baba presents her with a box of supplies. When Yasmin finds that imitation is a dead end, she stumbles upon a style all her own. Yasmin the Painter is a great story for young readers beginning to explore chapter books. Full of fun dialogue, colorful art and rich backwater, this story is a joy to read again and again.

Easy reader that's actually enjoyable
I have three daughters and two sons. I homeschool. I cycle through a lot of easy readers and I'm always looking for good ones with girls. Not just Elsa, or Fancy Nancy, or Angelina Ballerina, or books where it's actually a cat or a bunny or what have you. Yasmin reads like a REAL little girl. The books are just long enough to have a good story, but not so long that a new reader gets discouraged. The problem was a simple, real problem--not an amped up first world problem that everyone is way too emotional about ("We have the wrong cookies for the bake sale! OH NO!!!!!") And it's just plain exciting that it's a little girl with a non-WASP heritage. Love the cultural tidbits at the end. I'll be reading more with my kiddos!
