I absolutely love this beauty dish! Most of my lighting equipment is Westcott, but I didn’t want to spend as much on a beauty dish, so I decided to give this one a try. I’m so glad I did! The quality is great and I absolutely love the results. Beautiful, flattering light and an amazing value for the price! Highly recommend!

The hallmark of a good beauty dish is its ability to provide light that's direct enough that you still get shadows and cheekbones and definition and contrast, but large enough that it offers some softness around those shadows. People will shoot with silver-lined or white-lined beauty dishes, with a diffuser in the front or just a bare reflector, and with or without a grid. The flexibility of a good beauty dish, and knowing how to configure and point your beauty dish is key for portraiture. At first glance, you might mistake this for an octabox based on its size, but it's got twice as many points, a more C-shaped housing, and a reflector dish right in front of the light mount, making it act more like a very big beauty dish. Put to the test, light output was very even across the surface, which is what I like to see. After the metal reflector dish, there's another layer of diffusion fabric held in place by snaps, and after that is the outer layer of diffusion fabric. Suffice to say, by the time your light escapes this light, it's gone through quite a few detours, resulting in light that doesn't look like it came out of a studio light. It's just beautiful, high-quality light. You get a lot for the price here. There's a carrying case that actually looks like it might hold up for a few years, the aforementioned diffusion fabrics, reflector dish, the unit itself, and an eggcrate grid for the front. Other manufacturers would charge you for each one of these features, but you get to start with everything right from the go, and that's nice. Setup is very fast. You can leave the inner, and even outer diffusion fabric in place while you unzip the side and press the unlock button. Just watch your hand, there's quite a bit of tension going on there. You can go from packed up to set up in 10-15 seconds, and vice versa in maybe a few seconds more, because you'll want to pack the fabric up safely. No screws, velcro, or putting rods in pockets. It's a really nice design, and it locks in place until you press that button and free the two halves. I'm thoroughly impressed with the design and quality of this light, and will be looking to buy more as opportunities present themselves.

I bought this on a budget for a portrait shoot not expecting much for the price. I was surprised at the build quality, though the assembly was a little fidely the 1st time. I do wish the carry bag and pockets for the deflector, and egg crate to store them when not in use but not risking them just falling out with taking them in and out. That said the size of the bag that hold this is about 2.5 2 liter bottles to visualize carrying it. The bowens mount in my opinion is a great thing for the photo industry. A similar size westcott branded beauty dish would have easily been $120+ on sale and the westcott would not have came with the egg crate. I use this on my FJ 400 and its been great. My assistant finds it is easy to hand hold when we are run and gun shooting events. Its not overly heavy and the yellow helps those around us see it if we are backing towards them.

I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but with this product I was blown away with the quality and the overall build. i own several other light boxes and the quality of this is above and beyond everything I own. Highly recommend five star all day

This thing is just great. It makes beautiful soft light, and is the perfect size for smaller spaces or outside when there's a bit of a breeze. The grid just makes it that much more versatile. Build quality is very good compared to the entry level stuff I had used before. Light is pretty even except for being slightly dimmer at the center, but I don't see that as a bad thing. The reflector and the added diffusion eliminate the hot spot that I have in the center of my other modifiers and ensures that the light that is falling on your subject is all beautiful edge light. The center plate IS NOT reversible, and if you try to reverse it and push too hard, you'll damage the softbox. Doesn't matter. Not sure why I'd reverse it anyway except for curiosity's sake. Money well spent. I want to get the 42" now that I've seen the difference between this and what I've been using. Update: This little box has outperformed my larger stuff to the point that I never use my other boxes anymore. I just ordered the 42". These are what I use now. Can't imagine wanting anything else.

I haven’t had a chance to use it much yet, but so far it seems good. It is pretty easy to set up and take down, which is nice. It works well with a speed light using an S type adapter. The big downside is the weight. This is my first softbox, so maybe the weight is typical for such things. But this is about five pounds by itself, and more when you add a light source to it. If you look at buying light stands, you’ll find that most of the affordable ones can only accommodate around 5-7 pounds maximum, and even that is questionable at max height on a windy day. So you’ll want to get a good air or spring cushioned light stand that can accommodate 8-20 pounds. You can get a good air-cushioned Flashpoint stand for around $30. But pretty much any other stand capable of holding this will require you to spend a lot more money. The big advantage of these is how portable and affordable (relatively speaking) they are, but the weight cuts down on that advantage.

I am pleasantly surprised with this. I’ve used beauty dishes in the past and wasn’t knocked out with the harshness of a silver dish. This one in white and easily packable is outstanding. For headshots and portraits this 25” dish functions as both a beauty dish and a small soft box. Really a very versatile part of my kit now..
