Method Lights ML-EL Smart Easel Light LED for Artists - Long Life Rechargeable Battery & Remote Control

This light has utterlessly spoiled me by providing the absolute PERFECT light with no glare or strain to the eyes.(I paint for hours at a time and struggle with really dry and sensitive eyes) The articulate lighting settings is better than perfect. The adjustable neck and clamp is very sturdy and easy to get the best angle. Despite re-positioning it often, the neck has not weakened from much use. Despite the steep price, it is WORTH it in every manner that matters EXCEPT the battery life. If used when plugged in, it’s great. But when not plugged in the battery life definitely does not last as advertised. This is unfortunately why I have lowered my star rating. I’ve had my light for two years and now I’m very sad to say it has completely stopped working. While the charging unit has a green light when plugged in, the actual battery box will not shine it’s light, green or red, which makes me assume it has completely died. I would re buy this light 10 times over if I could, but unfortunately I just cannot afford to.

These are amazing. The quality is obvious, sturdy metal, excellent coating, excellent mobility. The extra factor is that it can be warm or bright white, or a mix between. I use these on my metal prints so the mix is perfect to highlight my lightening shots. They also have a small adjustment to bring focus of the light in a bit. The remotes work from a good distance, and the battery packs last long enough I always have mine plugged in before it runs out of juice. Wow is an understatement. These are amazing.

My studio in the woods lacks electric power, so this chargeable unit is great for cloudy days or evenings. I can direct the light to shine on both my canvas and palette, in whatever intensity I like.The section of the brief manual on "recharging" could be clearer. Specifically, the battery doesn't charge when the battery switch is off, but this page of the manual doesn't mention this.

I would give this product a higher review rating but here's the problem, for the price you pay for this light the length of the cord to the power supply and then on to the light is WAY too short. And the power supply is quite heavy for the size, therefore if you clip your light onto the extension of the easel (in my case a plein air set up) the power supply ends up dangling along the back of the upright panel/canvas holder and makes the entire setup unstable. Sure, you can figure out a way to use those large Home Depot clips to clip it to the easel, but again, for over $300 your shouldn't have to do this. This element is very poorly designed and should be addressed by the manufacturer. They should extend the length of the cord between the light and the power supply. It's too late for me on this unit and I'm not happy with how I have to dangle it from the easel. I cannot recommend this product for this reason alone.** UPDATE: After speaking with the company, they expect that the artist will either hand the bag the unit comes in from the easel, or use Velcro to attach it to the easel. Sure, you can do that but I do not believe it is optimal. I suggested that future versions have longer cords so that the artist can lay the battery box/power supply on the ground or on a table nearby. This would be much less intrusive to the easel. I also suggested that the lamp gooseneck be longer. The problem I am having is that the light is directly overhead and reflects off the palette as I try to mix colors.

Very frustrating..! When you go to find the manual all you are confronted with is pages of programming information, no english instructions...

This small portable light is such a help in my painting studio. Adjustable color temp. Easy directions for use! Can be placed anywhere. I don't know how I managed without it. Brings out detail and color!! The Method Lights Smart Easel Light would be ideal for any artist or crafter (beginner or professional). Probably could also be great for sewing/ quilting.
