Replaced OEM Visteon 1C3U-11000-AE on a 2002 Excursion Diesel
So far I have only used it for one day -- and it is amazing -- but I want to share my research & experience with Amazon buyers. The Description says that this unit only replaces starters with 3 bolts -- that is not true. My 2002 Excursion has an Original Equipment Visteon 1C3U-11000-AE Starter that is on the approved replacement list -- and it only has 2 bolts. Like I said -- I have used it only one day and it is amazing. If there are any future problems I will update the review. Now: Other things I have learned in my research and experience with the 3-hour install: -- Removing the old starter can be really hard or really easy. Mine was a little of both. The housing bolts on the oil soaked starter came out with finger force (not kidding). The power and signal bolts on the solenoid snapped off immediately. I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut the copper power bolt off of the cable.-- The new starter did fit without grinding the frame of my Excursion -- but it was not happy doing so and I had to first slide the teeth into the opening and then twist the 30 pound starter around until it went up into the cavity. Looks like about 1/4" clearance with the frame.-- I read a review from a VERY WISE person on a Ford website. He bolted an extension cable onto the Power and Signal wires. I think this is the simplest and best approach. Some people said that they put the wires on before slipping the starter into the cavity ...... I don't see how that can work because there just is not enough space. If you take the time to add extension cables you will save yourself hours of frustration (in my case).-- If you do not take the extension route (like I did not), it is necessary to flatten the clip on the Power cable since the new post is a touch farther away, and is on the side, not on the end. I also had to file the inside of the hole on the clip so it would fit the post, but not much.-- If you do not take the extension route (like I did not) you will be very frustrated trying to screw the signal wire onto the post. I finally did it by finding a longer screw (~1") with the exact same thread (lucky I have that old parts bin -- but you could get one at a hardware store). I also attached the signal wire from the other side of the post since there is no access on the side that the screw is shipped on. I strongly recommend buying a 1" screw and "warming up" the threads on the other side of the starter while it is still on your bench. In total, it took me an hour to figure this out. If you are prepared this one wire is a one minute job.Good luck and I'll follow up with my experience after I have used the starter for a while.

5 stars, for now.... Ill update in a few months.
ok, for starters (no pun intended) this starter is visually a little bit different from the original. not much though. similar proportions. I have a 1996 Ford F-250 7.3L Turbo Diesel, 4WD, 5 speed manual trans, Extended cab, Long bed. I had plenty of clearance. no issues. removal of the old starter was more of a hassle than the installation of the new. I (like other reviewers) installed my electrical before I installed the starter. as stated by others here, it is a 2 bolt vs a 3 bolt. I have no concerns with the lack of the third bolt. it is, and will be fine. Starting my truck for the first time after the install was as expected. is started strong and fast. others here seem wildly impressed with this starter, however I am not impressed quite the same way. I bought a high torque starter and it preforms as it should. I'm not impressed when something does what its intended to do. I feel it is a noticeably better starter than a stock, or OE equivalent. Iv installed my fair share of starters in my time, and I believe that this is one of the better products iv purchased. if im asked, ill say install the starter, pass go, and spend the $100... it'll be well worth the investment. ill update this in a few (probably 6) months to confirm or denounce my decision to buy this starter. I chose to believe the other reviewers here, and im glad that I did. a solid product and I feel good about the money I spent. you will as well.

Great starter
Hopefully this thing lasts. It is much larger than the original and looks high quality. It does turn over the truck much faster which is a plus. No mods needed with the exception of the power wire needing to be slightly bent.

2002 Powerstroke 7.3
Huge difference in starting. Engine cranks over much faster now. New starter is much larger than old oem. There are concerns with fitment when reading reviews. It is a tight fit but there is enough clearance, no mods necessary for fitment. I did have to modify the power wire terminal due to the angle it was bent. No big deal or concerns though. Super cheap compared to oem and better quality. Recommend purchasing!*Update almost 2yrs later. Starter is still performing flawlessly. Cranks just as fast as when purchased. Very satisfied. Ordering another to install on friends truck.****Update Dec 25, 2020. Avoid starter! Starter has failed and wouldn't start while away from home on Christmas Eve (convienently)...... Checked all other possibilities and narrowed it to starter. Verified it had failed. Looks like dad got a new starter for Christmas but not this one. Do not buy!

a bit scary, at first.
The original stater on my 2000 F250 psd died. Well, it was 19 years old. I've always liked the sound of a geared starter so I thought I'd try this one. Especially since it had such good reviews. When I received the new starter, I was a bit scared since it was shaped differently and had one more tooth in the gear and only had two mounting bolts. I knew that what happens when it starts is two gears mesh and that even though there were more teeth, it was the spacing between the teeth that was important. In this case the spacing between the teeth was the same. Installing the mounting bolts was actually easier than for the original starter too. The only thing I will say about installation is that one should put on the cables before installing it as it is very difficult to attach the small wire after it is installed. The heavy cable was able to hold it in place making putting the small wire on much easier. The first time I started my truck with this new starter was amazing. It turned so fast that I almost couldn't believe it. Now let's see if I can get another 19 years on this one! I'll report back after a while to see if I still like it too.
