teacher
I have owned this book for many years and it has been the inspiration for many a successful lesson with primary aged children. I have learnt a great deal about technique and how to enhance artworks without having special "drawing" talent. A must for any teacher in a school without a specialist art teacher.

this has been good.
It is. indeed, an Introduction. I see that I will have to supplement instructions with other books, but for a scratch beginner in Mixed Media, this has been good.

Good general overview
This book is designed to open the reader's eyes to the various types of mixed media art and how the techniques are used by different artists to achieve a wide range of effects. The photographs, especially those of the tools and supplies used in the techniques, as well as the photographs of artwork are especially informative, and useful for a beginner. However, if you're looking for specific technique instructions, or tips on how to combine the various mixed media techniques into your own artwork, you may be disappointed. This book left me wanting more, but it is still a valuable addition to a beginning artist's library.

A good starting point, nothing more
A slim book at 74 pages and now technically out-of-date as it was first published by Dorling Kindersley over 20 years ago. However, materials and methods have probably not changed or changed only minimally in the years passed since original publication. "An Introduction To Mixed Media by Michael Wright" is as described with the possible omission of the word 'Brief' from its title. A companion volume, 'An Introduction to Art Techniques' also from the publisher's 'Art School' series has 480 pages and is far more instructive. Mixed media is a conceptual format in which selected art techniques as well as materials such as ink (printing or drawing), oil paint, acrylics and others with the possible addition of some from crafting, most commonly collage, can meet in a work. It isn't an obscure art form as Picasso and Braque are among the better-known occasional participants; there are a great many more who may be less widely known but are recognised as 'major' or 'significant' in the field. This book concentrates mostly on the materials and methods typically used interspersed with a few basic ideas but it does not offer any specific projects to undertake nor offer advice. It offers a limited range of ideas but it isn't a complete 'how-to' guide but more a catalogue of things typically used. It is therefore possibly superficial in some areas. DK have done better with other similar 'Introduction to...' arts and crafts titles whether or not from the 'Art School' series. However, it is an Intro rather than anything intended to be fully comprehensive.

Mixed Media
It is comprehensive, informative and I have found it very useful. It was written by my tutor at Hertfordshire University who was always very helpful.
