Ridiculously Simple Furniture Projects: Great Looking Furniture Anyone Can Build

I would call myself an advanced intermediate wood worker. I already own most of the tools, but found myself getting a little stagnant with things to build. I came across this to get a few ideas and thought maybe I would get some pointers as well. Well, the book did it. I got lots of fun ideas. Projects that take less than an hour to more complex are in here. Even projects you can do from scraps you may have laying around. There are projects that anybody can do and with very minimal tools. If you ever went to a store and looked at a shelf and said wow that's crazy how much money these cost, do yourself a favor and pick up this book or one like it. You will see how simple it is to build some of this stuff. Even if you don't have any tools you can pick up a few cheap tools to get you started. Check pawn shops for tools if you are really on a budget. For under $100 you can set yourself up with a few tools and materials for a couple of projects, plus once you have the tools you only need to buy them once (until you wear it out anyways which normally will take a long time if you take care of them). Great book.

Very easy to build projects, many of which are also designed to make efficient use of materials (for example, a portable table that is made out of one sheet if plywood, using clever cuts to minimize waste). Mostly, it is household projects, like shelves, a small table, bookcase or DVD rack, and the like.4 stars because it is a solid value for someone looking for simple do-it-yourself ideas, for practical projects. I can't quite give it 5 stars, because the instructions on a few of the projects are not very detailed.

Cannot begin to tell you how much money this book has saved me. While researching plywood chairs for my upscale gourmet pizza restaurant I ran across a video of the author building his puzzle chair on YouTube. I was looking for an affordable, durable and yet modern dining chair for our restaurant. I bought the book thinking I probably wouldn't be impressed with the results but could at least write it off as market research. I as actually surprised at how amazing these chairs really are. Buy the book a d prepare to be amazed while saving money. I have probably saved $4,000.

We bought this book off Amazon because my husband loves to build but is new at it. We have found so many things we want to make out of this book and he has already built the entertainment center and it was so nicely laid out he finished it with no problems. Next one his list to make is TV Console. The ideas in this book are simple but UNIQUE! We both love this book and would recommend it to anyone even the most experienced carpenter. I bought this book for my husband on reccomendation from my dad. My dad tried his hand at the cookbook stand and in only a matter of hours it was done, functional and beautiful! (He gave it to me after I told him how much it would match my kitchen!) My husband is now eager to try to his hand at these projects once he saw the ease which my dad flew through his first project. I think there is going to be a whole lot of new furniture floating around our house soon!

I bought this book for my husband who is recently retired and reviving his interest in woodworking. He has been updating his tools and outfitting his workshop with the basics. This book was perfect for him. He has some basic skills and wants to learn more--this book includes projects that are simple, but well designed and very attractive. The instructions and photos are well done, and the extra comments and side articles are very helpful. Of all the books we looked we own on the topic, this is probably the best.

Pictures are nice but that is the only simple thing about the projects. With sparse instructions they are simple only for someone who build them before or with a professional background such as an editor of the Handyman magazine. For the rest of us - ridiculously frustrating projects.

I have seen so many books claiming to offer great furniture that is simple to build - inevitably I have been disappointed either becuse the projects are not simple or because they need a shedful of expensive machinery. This book lives up to the title and more - it's well-detailed, concise, and the projects are useful and aesthetically pleasing plus it is an ideas generator for further projects. Ideal for those setting up home wanting to get away from the standard shop-bought furniture - make it yourself - or for those who simply rejoice in making stuff. If you only ever buy two making furniture books then this has to be one of them. Can't recommend it highly enough
