Seinfeld : Complete Series Set

First off the entire series on DVD gets a 5 star rating no matter what format it's in. SEINFELD is one of the all time greatest comedies that was ever produced, period. Now on to the one thing people seem to be complaining about, the packaging of the DVD's. I was concerned about what some reviewers said about the cardboard sleeve style that the DVD's slide in and out of. I immediately opened the plastic wrapping and I must say that while it is a stark difference from the original packaging of the first issues of the individual seasons I really cannot complain about the entire set up. I think the packaging that resembles a small fat hardcover book is not as bad as some might lead one to believe. This entire series set contains every disk from the original nine releases. All the extras included as well. As I began to watch each disk I noticed that sliding the disk out of the cardboard sleeve was not dificult at all and I detected no scratching whatsoever. In fact it was a delight to see the entire nine seasons together in a very neat package. One other thing that I am considering is that in the past many people complain about the high cost when a studio releases the entire series in an elaborate package, sometimes costing a few hundred dollars. While I know that some people love these extravagant set ups, most of us will not shell out the money for this. And most of the time the fancy packaging will not fit on a shelf in a person's collection, another complaint I hear from many. So when the studio comes out with a simpler container for an entire series I look at this has a cost saving measure so that every fan can have it. In the long run, all I really want is the great series that I love. If I want to, I can always move the disks to another type of packaging if I feel the disk will be harmed in any way, but the one that SEINFELD comes in is by far one of the best that I have seen. I very highly recommend getting this SEINFELD: The Complete Series set. If I had received this as a gift I would be jumping in the air with appreciation. If you love Puffy Shirts, PEZ dispensers, Junior Mints, etc. then go get it now.

It's awesome and for a good price

I just purchased this complete series of Seinfeld a few months ago. I had my dvr set up to record every episode of Seinfeld in repeats. So every night I would watch 2-3 episodes before bed and it was my regular routine. They aired the final episode and the reruns started from the first one again and I thought how stupid could I be. I love this show. I will watch it over and over. So I looked into purchasing it as a complete series. And what I found - this item here - was a godsend. Now I can watch every episode from the beginning in order, digitally remastered with an added 2-3 minutes per episode with the cuts for tv airing gone. And let me tell you the difference in video quality is amazing. Now if you are looking at this item you are obviously a Seinfeld fan so I am going to write more on the quality of the set - The Complete Series. I have purchased many complete series sets of other shows and have never, ever seen one of the quality of Seinfeld. Anything you read in the item description praising its construction cannot be written well enough to honestly show its brilliance. The collectors case is made of the sturdiest heavy cardboard and it stands an estimated 11" by 7". It is very classy in pure black with a small photo of the cast embossed in the center of the front. And the title Seinfeld is embossed in bold gold on the side. Turn it to the side and there are three compartments. The long side compartment holds the superb coffee table book and the other two are separate sections that hold cases that contain the episode discs. The first is a trifold case that holds series 1-5 and the second is the same but carries seasons 6-9. There are 32 discs total. The coffee table book is a beautiful hardback book that is worth much just in itself. It is a 226 page anthology with descriptions of each episode, pictures, quotes and trivia. The facts in this book are amazing and tell why the show made many decisions in plot, casting and plot. It is a dream for any Seinfeld fan. And we also get the bonus disc of the cast reunion. Bottom line is that nothing was spared with this complete series set. It is a true gift to Seinfeld fans. The discs of the series you get are the same you got if you purchased them individually as they were for sale. The unique thing about Seinfeld is that the extras with each season are actually worth viewing. There is a making of documentary of each season, bloopers and very informative and fun features. People who already own the series individually often get angry at having to "double dip" but what this item costs now makes it a no brainer to purchase. As I said the coffeee table book is an expensive item in itself. And series have been on dvd long enough now that people must realize they certainly can purchase each season as it is released but ultimately when the show has run its course there will be a complete series set released. I cannot praise the Seinfeld Complete Series set enough. it is one of my favorite shows of all time and here it is presented in all its remastered glory with all the Seinfeld trivia and features I could want. And I want to end by noting that the collector's case is so nice that I actually have it displayed on top of a bookcase. It is in no way cheesy but put together as an elegant piece of art. I am so glad that I came to my senses and stopped watching the reruns on tv and invested in this amazing set that I will now have for a lifetime.

BUT SO WHAT? This is the top television show to ever come on. People need to enjoy it for what it's worth. DVD still has relevancy at the moment. Not top relevancy, but still significant. They just wanted to put out the series again in a smaller package, that could cost less. Sony Entertainment tends to do that lately with a lot of the TV shows they own after they already put everything out on the shelf. I saw the review on YouTube about the packaging, and I'm positive that if you treat it with care as you pull the discs out, they'll be fine. Perhaps the main reason that it isn't on Blu-ray yet is that its time hasn't come. Certainly, it was shot to an HD-ready quality, but there's more to it. It takes a lot of work to make a Blu-ray disc for something that old. It took Seinfeld 7 years after the DVD invention to release the sets on that format. It takes years for them to put everything on discs, then there's the thing with special features. You need to figure out whether to transfer the old features from the DVDs or make new special features, especially when so much time has passed. This specific release isn't for everyone, but there are two things you can do, depending on the kind of person that fits you best: If you want Seinfeld to keep up with the times and let you watch it in the most enhanced quality, wait for the Blu-ray and in the meantime, catch the HD reruns on TBS at a specific time. If you want to watch any episode whenever and you can't find it streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime, go with this package. Seinfeld is the kind of show that wants to be viewed for the great material that they gave you over the years, and this is the best we got right now.

This is great box set that has some solid transfers that look pretty good on DVD even though it is not HD. Also offers a nice selection of extras including the original pilot episode. One of the best features is the fact the episodes are shown in their original 4x3 aspect ratio so you are not getting them cut off like they are now when shown on tv for modern audiences with a pan and scan to fill the screen but cut off the top and bottom of the original 4x3 image - this is big difference in how the scenes look and the series is presented. Highly recommend buying this set over a digital copy too, just for this reason alone. Received set in pretty good shape as discs in good shape - some minor scuffs on the outside box. Just wish Amazon would ship media properly as sick of wondering when I get some tv show, movie or music if it will be damaged due to a lack of proper packaging.

I love this! Bought it for my dad for Christmas and he’s going to love the fact he can watch the series from start to finish. He’s only just become a Seinfeld fan and has to cope with whatever re-runs are shown in tv. Now he will have every episode ever made! Yay!

the price was great and it was delivered very quickly to me

My husband loves the Seinfeld series, so this was the perfect set for him. The disks are efficiently packaged like a book, without a bunch of unnecessary extra boxes or cardboard, and that leaves plenty of non-Seinfeld space on the shelf. The show itself is a fun and irreverent look back at 90's sensibilities, too. Enjoy!
