Great read!
I thought that I was ordering a copy of Mere Christianity with annotations. I didn't realize that the book was about the life of C.S. Lewis and how the events in his life led to the writing of the book. This is a great read and I was hooked from the first few pages. Highly recommend for a look into the life and times of such a great Christian author.

Excellent overview
I purchased two for my husband and I to read before beginning Mere Christianity and an accompanying study. This author did quite well developing the foundations of Mere Christianity. He blended the war with Lewis' personal and professional lives in an interesting weave that kept me looking forward to my nightly reads. I am an avid WWII dilettante, and was not expecting to learn about the war, but I did! I also have a greater appreciation for Lewis as a man. Delicate issues were handled well; no presumptions or surmising, just a lovely study of a God using a man for His purposes. I would recommend to others. Well done.

Valuable information on a critical point in the life of C.S. Lewis
This biography covers the period from just before to just after World War II (with context from the rest of Lewis's life). It brings this period to life with many informative details about how Lewis was affected by the War. It also gives a clear understanding of how Mere Christianity came into being. The book is based on the outstanding radio drama "C.S. Lewis at War".

DON’T GIVE UP READING THIS. (Trust me.)
C.S. LEWIS speaks to my soul. I love “MOST” anything he writes, but to be honest “MERE CHRISTIANITY” was very hard for me to begin reading. It is very “DEEP” logically and spiritually, but as I “picked it up and started over many times,” I find it more and more applicable to me. Now it’s one of my favorites.

Excellent Look at C.S. Lewis and His Life!!
I started reading C.S. Lewis books back in the early 1970's and have always been intrigued with his life and times... Paul McCusker presents a captivating and intimate look at "Jack" Lewis and his life. Mr. Lewis was a gifted man and his writings are as relevant today as they were when he wrote them. Excellent book and a very enjoyable read!!

Beautifully written introduction
This is a superb book, a beautifully written introduction to the life and thought of Lewis. The author skilfully weaves in Lewis's story with key developments in the War and gives much thoughtful information on citizens' daily life during the conflict and on broadcasting practices of the time. McCusker well and truly lives up to the clear communication and grounded thinking that distinguished Lewis's books and broadcasts.
