Funny Story Review: A Perfect Love Story - This one hits on every emotional moment with still a sprinkling of comedy and a cast of characters that you fall in love with. Daphne and Miles are absolutely amazing and I love how we meet them initially, and then get to know them in such a meaningful way. You can understand how they might be attracted to each other and how the shared grief/trauma of their situation has led them to each other, but once we have a forced proximity, all bets are off. I love the different issues between the families and how we come to such a beautiful resolution and despite the happy ever her after we leave relationships being slightly imperfect, which just adds to the realism. One of my favorite reads of this year. Review: Binged this book - I genuinely did not expect to love Funny Story as much as I did, but wow—this book completely swept me away. I binge-read it in one sitting, and I regret nothing. At first glance, it seemed like it would be your typical rom-com, but it turned out to be a surprisingly heartbreakingly sweet story that hit me in the feels in all the right ways. Emily Henry has this incredible ability to write characters that feel so real, so raw, and so deeply human. The FMC, with her sharp wit and deeply rooted cynicism, resonated with me on a personal level. She’s messy and guarded and painfully relatable. And then there’s Miles—Miles! The kind of cinnamon roll MMC who quietly steals your heart and makes you root for him from the very first page he appears on. Their chemistry is slow-burn perfection, and the way their relationship evolves feels honest and earned. I absolutely adored the second-chance romance aspect and the cozy, chaotic found family they build around themselves. It gave the story so much warmth and depth, balancing out the heartbreak with moments of joy, connection, and hope. Funny, tender, and full of emotional nuance, Funny Story isn't just another love story—it’s the kind of book that lingers with you long after the last page. Five stars, hands down.

Truly an outstanding romance!
Another 6 star read from Emily Henry! This one was a solid, enjoyable romance, but 3 things took it to the next level. 1. Miles *insert swooning emoji* 2. Her realistic and nuanced emotional arc for the heroine 3. The prose - she has these PERFECT little metaphors to convey complex emotions that always hit just right and make me reach for my highlighter. The emotional arc, though. *happy sighs* As a reader of way too many romances, I'm aware how many of these books skim the shallower layers of "I've been hurt before but this time, this person sees me." I feel like Henry really WENT THERE a bit more with this book, especially in the third quarter. The use of the father's visit to drive her point home was amazingly effective, as was the use of both of their exes and how that was a funny part of the setup, but also one that ran very deep with hurt for both of the protag's insecurities. I really FELT how the heroine always felt second-best, like the one that was disposable to others, and how it felt too easy for her ex and her father to just...not care that much and forget about her. Henry also did a better than average job of showing the layers of Miles understanding Daphne, truly enjoying her company, and showing them slowly, naturally, slipping into a mutually supportive and fun friendship. I TRUSTED Miles so implicitly--you just got the idea that you knew who he was and he was bone-decent and truly cared for Daphne. The supportive characters and found family were really convincing here, and I loved the two subplots about how hard it is to make and keep adult friendships going. I feel like the author didn't give us the "cartoon perfect" example of that, as gaslighty as it can feel. Wonderful book-fun to read and full of depth and nuance. Truly an outstanding example of what readers love about a romance!

Sweet, hilarious romcom with depth and spice. Highly recommend!
I had to take a few days and gather my thoughts after reading this book. This was my 2nd Emily Henry book and I really loved it. From the very first chapter I was completely enthralled in her characters and storytelling. Being told solely from the FMC Daphne’s perspective made me feel like I was her and her struggles were so relatable to me. The insecurities she felt, and the difficulty she had feeling like she “fit in”, her buttoned up persona that desired to be more spontaneous but found it hard to make that leap, her relationship troubles with her family and her “almost” in laws, and of course her love of libraries and books. The ache she felt for a place to belong and to feel wanted and chosen was so beautifully written and made it even more special to watch her “found family” come together. Ok mushy deep feelings aside… this book was so funny. The snarky internal monologue she had about the terrible situation she found herself in by no fault of her own was so perfect. And then there’s Miles… oh my goodness. This guy is her polar opposite and exactly what she didn’t know she needed. He SEES her in a way that no man ever has and the chemistry between them is so undeniable that it never felt like a rebound and you couldn’t help but cheer them on! He’s the eternal optimist to her pessimistic self and the guy that can make a friend anytime anywhere without even trying while she is the girl that watches with awe from the sidelines. I absolutely love couples like this who are opposite but bring out the best in each other. The setting was perfect for a spring or summer read with the adorable small town full of sweet side characters. Scenes at the beach, library, wine bar, and farm stand. Delicious food and wine…It made the story so cozy. This book was one that I did not want to put down. I laughed. I cried. I was smiling at the very last line which wrapped the whole book up so perfectly and brought everything full circle. I highlighted so much of this book… here are a few favorites: “For someone with the innate social charm of a mounted fish (me), watching Miles befriend this stranger felt like seeing Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel: impressive, but also dizzying. Like any second, he might fall off his ladder and splatter on the marble below.” “I remember loving a story. Feeling like I was living it. Being, even as a child, bowled over by how something imaginary could become real, could wring every emotion from me or make me homesick for places I’d never been.” “Things were allowed to be complicated. They were allowed to be messy. We were allowed to disagree and argue and even hurt each other, on occasion, and it didn’t mean it was time to let the revolving door of life carry us away from each other. Sometimes things are hard. They just are.” ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. CW: F words, multiple open door scenes, recreational drug use

The book I received was printed by amazon, which gave it a bad quality. I asked for a replacement that was printed by the publisher, but yet again received a copy printed by amazon.

As an already exisiting fan girl of Emily Henry's, I can confidently say that Funny Story is my favourite book from her so far. Daphne & Mile’s story had me laughing, tearing up, and nodding along in recognition with her journeys and struggles the entire way. Never before have I resonated with a story on such a deep level. The main character's experiences mirrored my own in many ways, making it feel like I was reading about a close friend rather than a fictional character. Emily Henry has once again captured my heart with her captivating storytelling and relatable characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh, a beautiful romance and a touching story of self-discovery!!

Me encantó! Es de esos libros que vale la pena volver q leer una y mil veces más. Es encantador! Tiene buenos mensajes y no solo del amor. Realmente lo recomiendo

Happy place was my favorite romance book from last year so my expectations for Funny Story were high ! They were so high that I was scared of not liking this one. But, Emily Henry did it again ! At first, I had trouble liking Daphne. She was always complaining and playing the victim. Sure her ex was an idiot but girl, just punch him in the face and get your life back on track (ok, I’m a bit heartless there). But, if Emily Henry is good at one thing it’s how she writes relationship. And Daphne and Miles’ was perfect. Nearly strangers to friends to lovers. The evolution was slow and so well done. It could have been a friendship story and it would still have been perfect. I was in love with Miles and his imperfections from the start. Come on, the guy wears Crocs and Emily makes you love him in a second ! If that’s not great writing, I don’t know what it is ! The other thing I like about Emily’s story is how the supporting characters are great and the found family trope is heartwarming and beautiful. As always for Emily Henry it’s a 5/5 read !

Fofo, leitura rápida e fácil. Os personagens são adoráveis e a história é bem relatable. Mas é bem previsível sem nenhuma surpresa no final.
