Reaosn For Purchase: Bought as a replacement copy because i wore my first one out.Review: The main problem with this book is that the authors capitulated to a publisher's demand - they left out all of the offensive words! Offensive words may be just that, however, they are legal words in tournament play - very disappointed regarding this censorship. Otherwise, even though some of the other reviewers complain about this book just being lists of words, well, news flash - that's exactly what wins tournaments - the player who knows the most "list of words" wins. The most likely bingo words, in various orders, are worth their weight in gold, as are the 3 to make 4's, 4 to make 5's, etc. Regarding hardiness of the book, it does wear out fairly easy but I've scanned in the lists that i use the most, printed them out and took them over the FedEx Office and laminated them.Recommendations to authors: Put all of the words back in the dictionary!!! Use a bigger font! Use a heavier bond of paper!Recommendations to novice-intermediate buyer/user: Buy the book (and some reading glasses for small print), understand it for what it is, memorize just a few of the word lists (2's, 3's and a couple lists of the most likely bingos) - watch your average game score soar by leaps and bounds!Final note: You'll find it's amazing how many bingos you get once you know how to manage your tile rack and know what letter combinations to look for. I rarely play a game now where I don't get at least 2 bingos and it all started with the first edition of this book that I bought back in the early 90's. Now, would somebody please gimme a blank and an S please - at the same time! and while you're at it, bring me some coffee in my scrabble mug.

I love just entering my letters into the unit and within seconds it lets me know if the word is spelled correctly or not and gives you other choices using the same tiles. I do not believe in using it to find a word with your tiles, but it will Build you a word, just enter the letters you want to use and again within seconds you will have a lot of choices to chose a word that will work for you. I like the ease of looking up the word instead of using the book and searching for the word. This little unit does so much more then you can image, it is a great tool for any Scrabble or word gamer.There are a couple of things I do not like, first the cost of this unit and it does not even come with batteries, the other is the screen I think it is a LCD), it is very delicate. I had a another model of this tool that I had purchased about 15 or 20 years ago, (it was a great handy size, I loved it, I wish they still made this model) I dropped it by accident, only about a foot off the floor and that was all it took to ruin the screen. So be very careful with it, your money will be gone in seconds. I also don't like the look of the words on this screen, sometimes it is hard to make out the letters.But, all in all, I did purchase another one because of all that it can do.

I am buying my 3rd copy of this book. It is precious! It has all the word lists for Scrabble but is also useful for "word mine" and other word games. I am an occasional Scrabble player and this game helped me immensely, but I am at that age where I play a lot of games that are supposed to improve memory and brain function. This is my constant companion! I have a copy at my home, one at my cabin and I am buying one to make into a spiral bound book..There are some cons: The book is unwieldy; it is large size and must be handled gently or the pages fall out. The type size is microscopic and looks like it was formatted on a dot matrix printer; I already use readers so this is not a huge problem, but the publishers could do better. The bool needs to be updated. It has 99% plus of scrabble words, but it missing the newer words and some nasty words that are legal.Ideally, I would like to see the book updated, broken into 3 sections, reduced to 8 x 10" size, printed in a larger, clearer type and for each section to be spiral bound. However, this book is so useful as it is, I feel like I am asking bacon to improve!If you play any word games, you need this book. It will give you access to thousands of words and teach you about the incredible English language. Buy it!

I guess this could be beneficial if you want to study it. But all it is is a list of words so the cons and pros are:CONS:Just a list of words of varying lengthVery fine print - you'll need your glasses or magnifying glass depending on your sight variance and if you have a problem with reading small print.Some words are in non-alphabetic listsPROS:Just a list of words of varying lengthGood 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 letter lists to studySome strategic word lists (such as the High Fives - words that cannot have an "s" ending and Vowel Heavy words)Mnemonics - if you have the gumption to study these words it offers mnemonic exercisesThis book is for the Scrabble player and I mean not for the casual once a year Scrabble player but one who likes to play in a competitive or a non-competitive format but more frequently than once a week/month/year. For me it is a book that I will use to beat my brother in law; the self gloating Scrabble champ (at least he thinks he is in his own delusional part of this world).I bought it as a package with The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (definitely good book to have) and the Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition because I wanted more tiles to play with and what is good about this game is you score more. YIKES!Hope this helps anyone who has an interest in the wonderful world of Scrabble and the words that mankind has made up.

Took awhile to arrive, but was in perfect shape. I bought this for my grandchildren (13, 9, 7) and it doesn't seem very reader friendly for them. Wish I could have seen it before purchasing, although that isn't the vendor's fault. I don't recommend this book for kids at all, although it is very comprehensive for avid adult Scrabble fans. Print is pretty small too.The criticism is more for the contents of the book, than the vendor. Perhaps a better description of the contents would help.

Bought this book to help with my vocabulary when playing Scrabble or Wordscraper on-line..Just pages & pages of 3,4,5,6,7,8 letter words with no real method in its layout...I also bought the "official Scrabble dictionary",that i use quite frequently.This book stays under a pile on my computer desk and is never used or read...
