Quality vs Saving a few Pennies
Besides running a company, I also serve as the office supply order taker for our team. When we needed to restock sticky notes, I decided to try an off-brand option online—the price difference compared to official Post-it® Notes was significant enough to justify giving it a shot. The supplies arrived the next day, and the team immediately opened the box to grab their favorite colors. Unfortunately, the feedback was almost immediate. The off-brand notes didn’t stick. Within a day, we were picking up note pads off the floor, seeing unused stacks tossed in the trash, and hearing steady complaints. I went back online (no, I didn’t return them) and ordered the Post-it® Super Sticky Notes, hoping to put the frustration to an end quickly. They arrived the next day, and once again the team dove in—this time noticeably happier. The colors were more vivid, the notes stuck where they were placed, and they stayed put. The next morning, I found a stack of the off-brand note pads neatly placed on my desk. The team no longer wanted or used them, so they were donated to a local charity. Lesson learned. Our company now only purchases official Post-it® Sticky Notes, and we have no intention of going back. Sometimes the higher upfront cost saves time, frustration, and money in the long run.
