The Golden Rules of Acting

There's nothing wrong with the book itself--I just thought it would deal more with acting per se, rather than the business of being an actor. If I were an actor I would find the info valuable. The price of the book was reasonable, they used minimal packaging (but enough to protect the book) and it arrived in plenty of time.

My favorite book I buy and give to young actors.
I've bought 5 or 6 copies of this one and given them to young actors. It's priceless information for any aspiring actor....and it's presented in a fun format that makes you feel like you've picked up the author's own private notebook (complete with highlightings, penciled notes and underlinings.)A fantastic resource you'll turn back to over and over.

The Golden Rules of Acting
An imperfect treatise. Sure, it gives you a few "rules" for being an actor, but certainly not much more than one man's own personal experience. I cannot, in all good conscience, recommend it. Charles Reap ReadAReap.Com

Superb
Great rules for life and for performing , the man hits it in on the head. Taking old and new "chestnuts", he puts it in a logical way that defies opposition. Great Buy, Michael

I love it
Great information. Stuff you know but nice to have it compiled here. Few things you might not know. A Must have for actors at all levels.

I DON'T KNOW...
I don't know how experienced the one reviewer is who, in part, wrote, ("...not much more than one man's own personal experience."), but let me assure that reviewer that Nyman's book is much more than one man's personal experience. Having been an actor and director for many years I assure you that everything in Nyman's book is spot on. It's so satisfying to read a book about acting that is not 150 pages of telling you "how to do it". Nyman's book doesn't tell you that. His book gives you true life experiences and lessons that he's learned as he's worked on his craft in the professional arena. Finally a book an aspiring actor can relate to in a very human way.

SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE
This is a very interesting and different book on the technique of acting. It has lots of tips and advice on what to do if you are an actor. It tells you on how to learn your lines from a script, what to do with your costume when you have finished wearing it, how to research your character when have got a part in a tv show or film. The lists of tips and advice is endless in this pocket size book.I RECOMMEND IT.

Great little book
The book isn't over whelming, you can tell its been very well thought out to grab your attention with as little words as possible. To cut all the BS out and tell you what you need to hear from a veteran actor. I've only recently started to get back into acting and wanting to peruse a career in it, while looking into the industry I've decided to buy several books to help me. This here has been my first read of many more to come.I wouldn't say this is the best book for people just starting acting, however, its something you can come back to when you've delved into the world of acting and to keep you motivated

Inspirational uplifting advice for actors
I've bought this as a Christmas stocking filler for my 15 year old son who is an aspiring actor. It definitely isn't a book on how to act but a book on how to be a decent human being who happens to want to work as an actor!Andy Nyman has put together a vast bank of some inspirational and some down to earth truths for any actor aspiring or experienced. To be honest much of the advice in here could be dipped into by anybody at all.The book has thirteen chapters -IntroductionDrama schoolAuditionsLiving the lifeThe businessAgentsDirectorsTheaterFilmingReviewsSurvival tipsMaking it happenFinal thoughtsThroughout, the book is annotated and highlighted just to make certain tips drive home.I think this is a great little book of good and honest advice in the form of punchy snippets of wisdom and well worth having on your bookshelf.Recommended.

Easy and engaging to read
This book on acting is full of interesting graphics and text fonts and layout on each page providing an engaging, informative book to dip in and out of. Bought for a young teenager and they really enjoyed and learnt from it.

You don't always get what you paid for
You'll be very surprised at the size of this book having paid the price asked. Seems to have some witty advice but really not worth the price.
