Essential Pilates manual
Detailed handbook for analysing and teaching pilates exercises with clear pictures and instructions. Lots of examples of moderations to make exercise easier or harder.

Excellent matwork manual
Having recently started Stott pilates classes I wanted something that was specific to the Stott methodology as opposed to pilates in general. Additionally, if you know pilates you will understand that proper breathing and posture are essential elements of the exercises. This manual although expensive, thoroughly describes the exercises, the breathing and posture requirements from beginner through to experienced and I have found it enormously useful as a reference guide and practice aid. I would recommend it if you are following the Stott Pilates method, but if you want a general introduction to pilates look elsewhere.

Great content, poor print quality
Great content, but poor print quality; that being said, you have no other option. The photos should be sharper (obviously this I my opinion), but it looks like it was printed decades ago.

Great manual, I would recommend.

Get three for less than the price of one .
This manual is ridiculously overpriced . The instructions are clear and good but it could have considerably more variations for the poses . If it was 20 pounds then I would have no complaint . But It's not , the best price is £60 , far better to save your money and instead spend it on Pilates by Rael Isacowiitz , The Pilates Bible by Lynne Robinson and The Complete Pilates Tutor by Alan Herdman. Buying these three books new works out cheaper than the best price for the Stott manual . All of these are excellent books and you would also have the advantage of three different peoples explanations and understanding of Pilates .

I am a fitness instructor that teaches a variety of formats. I wanted to incorporate more mat Pilates exercises into my classes. This is the perfect book! It gives a great overview and background of Pilates methods, and then provides a detailed breakdown of numerous Pilates exercises - including cuing tips, modifications, and incorporation of props. I highly recommend it. The only downside, the photos in this book look a little outdated (does not affect the quality of content).

My pilates instructor let me borrow her manual (I think she was tired of me emailing her all the time with questions hahaha) and once I skimmed through it I knew I had to order my own. The language is a bit technical for someone with no real education in anatomy, but it pushes me to learn more about the body to better understand what I'm doing. The visual aids are great. I highly recommend this if you are working a pilates program at home. I have private sessions with my instructor, but I only do matwork so I can do them all at home with the basic pilates equipment (ring, mat, résistance bands). This is THE source for pilates.
