Install was no joke, but the water tastes great
The instructions are shockingly confusing - definitely written by an engineer! They could really improve this product by providing better instructions as this unit is definitely installable by a handy homeowner, and it’s worth the cost savings.I’ve been a fan of 3Ms under counter filter systems for years and didn’t know about this offering, but when I moved into my new house and looked into options for RO systems, I trusted the 3M brand most.I ended up running into a couple of annoying issues that were hard to remedy - the system expects a particular drain pipe configuration, and recommends against installing the waste line on the pipe connected to the waste disposal. But if you don’t have two drains in your sink, it’s hard to find a place to put the drain! The instructions provided no alternatives. When you install, make sure to leave room for the top cover to fit - I mounted my filters too close to my cabinet latch and it meant I needed to cut some from the cover for it to fit.I went with a different hot/water faucet fromInsinkerator, but the unit ships with an “air gap” faucet. Make sure the faucet you select is an air gap style or the hoses won’t fit.Once installed, I’ve been really appreciating the quality of the water. Overall very happy I went with this unit plus the added “hero status” earned by actually figuring out how to install it!

Happy with the product
As stated in other reviews, the instructions leave a lot to be desired. I was replacing an older model that was installed in a basement just below the kitchen with an existing third party faucet. I called 3M-AquaPure technical services department regarding my unique situation. They were very helpful and willing to spend as much time on the phone as I needed answering all my questions. The unit works fine producing good water.

Wonderful system
Does an amazing job, we have lots of iron in our water and this makes the water drinkable. Is a bit of a pain to install but well worth it!

The good, the bad and the ugly
PROs:- The quality of the system (filter and included accessories) is top notch... except for included faucet- 3M brand and warranty- well designed system and spatially optimized- price on Amazon for this RO filter system ($470) was HALF of what the plumber / installer quoted meCONs:- The installation manual is very bleak (lacks details, lacks part identification chart, lacked dimensions of parts, limited graphical diagrams - and they are black and white, not color)- included chrome / plastic faucet is ok for temporary use, but should be replaced with a more quality unit that matches user’s sink fixtures (to be purchased separately by buyer / user)- included faucet adapter (part) was wrong size (for me)... did not fit my cold water feed tube (source) under sink... mine is 3/8”. I had to buy another part (3/8 x 3/8 - 1/4 angle stop valve from supplier John Guest) to complete installation which delayed project by 1 week.Summary: good product, good price, poor documentation and hence tricky do-it-yourself installation. Buy this system if you can get a plumber to install for you, or if you have the patience to work through the install process yourself.

worthless installation instructions
3M should be embarrased by the installation instructions. There is so much lacking it's hard to know where to begin. I did install this myself, but only with a lot of head scratching - and I'm an engineer by training with a lot of experience with chemical systems installation. The drawings do not show some critical connections, leaving the installer to wonder what goes where. The drawings have some comments with odd lines trying to show what the comments are referring to such that a mistake could be made. One cautionary comment says not to cut a certain line because the length is important. However, in my installation, and I would guess many others, additional line has to be added to get from point A to point B. What problems will that cause? The diagrams showing an installation under a sink and another under a floor (under a sink) have different connections. Why? Many people will attach this to something other than the tinker-toy faucet that is provided. Those will have different connections. The instructions do not give any guidance about what the lines are for so it is difficult to know how to adapt. The system uses 1/4" and 3/8" connections in seemingly random ways with no explanation why these different sizes would be needed. Again, anyone who has to make the slightest adaptation will want to know why. The instructions advise to check and adjust the precharge pressure in the tank - but give no clue about how to do this. The average diy installer will not be able to do this and will be concerned. The instructions do suggest using a plumber if the diyer is unsure. That's a cop out. Professional installation will add hundreds to the (already high) cost of the system. What is needed are instructions that are written in conjuction with a average diy installer. There are a lot of steps, but the instructions could be MUCH better and the components could also be better marked and thought out.

Swapped Out Water Factory Easily
We had a Water Factory 3 filter Reverse Osmosis system that lasted 25 years.Sometime in that 25 years, WaterFactory was acquired by 3M.Our old WaterFactory unit was professionally installed. I looked at other brands but realized the Aqua-Pure Reverse Osmosis Filtration System 3MRO401 was EXACTLY the same as my 25 year old WaterFactory unit. The mounting screws matched. All the in and out tube locations matched. From this unit in the basement joist I send R/O water to the Kitchen Sink and two refrigerators. No problem. The filters are not cheap but the water is amazing. We send soft water and the filters do last 2 times recommended.
