It should be the TRRS cable that is labelled smartphone. The other cable ( TRS ) is missing the connection for mic, and more like a headphone headphone connector, not a headset. The genuine Apple connector does have support for the TRRS connector. **Q: I don't get how this mic could work with a smartphone. smartphones do not provide plug in power. am i missing something?** A: I don't know if all smartphones do but many do. It's the same way that something like wired earbuds work through either the headphone jack or dongles in the power port.
