🌳 Elevate Your Lawn Game with Rebel Shade!
The Pennington Rebel Shade Tall Fescue Mix is a 3 lb. powder-coated seed blend designed to create a darker, greener, and denser lawn than traditional Kentucky-31. This cool-season, aggressive perennial bunchgrass develops a thick, uniform turf and maintains its vibrant color throughout the growing season, all without the need for assembly.

I have a gorgeous super green very low maintenance lawn now
I bought this grass to grow under a maple tree in heavy shade, sand, and red clay. Everyone told me nothing would grow there and boy did this prove them wrong. I have a gorgeous super green very low maintenance lawn now! I planted it and watered it and in leas than 2 weeks I had grass. I would definitely buy this again!

Seeds germinate readily and grow a nice dark green in my shady yard

Older seed, moderate germination
Bought this for spring overseeding/patching. Seed was 18 mos old and germination was not what I expected.Otherwise, I do love Rebels. It's the best seed and grass i've put down but will purchase it in store from now on.

Green lawn
I recommend purchasing through a local supplier. You need to check the date on the bag.I have 20+ large oak trees on a 15,000 square foot lot. Yard was mostly dirt and moss. I aerated and applied lime. Laid the seeds down and covered with 1/4" of top soil. Watered daily. Did not use hay straw, as it can introduce more weeds.Best results in mid Sept to mid October in Atlanta. Late spring or summer, the seeds will germinate but die in the summer heat dued to poor root health. This is a cold season grass, so only reseed in fall.Do not apply any weed and feed or chemicals prior to reseeding. Do not allow your lawn care company to apply chemicals that may prohibit germination.Test your soil ph level. If moss is present on your lawn, it's an indication you need to apply lime.I got excellant results on 6 bags. Seeding is process. Most of us will need to reseed every fall. The fescue stays green year round, unlike my neighbors sod. I prefer to cut the grass high, ensures root protection from drying out.

Not Pennington Brand Seed
What I don’t like is ordering Pennington Seed and getting “Seed Ranch” seed. This doesn’t build trust and confidence that I got what I ordered which was “shade tolerant” fescue.Update May 23, 2020: I planted the seed three weeks ago and there is zero germination. Seed I purchased locally and planted in an adjacent area in the exact same conditions has done well.

Zero germination
The manufacturer should refund what I paid. It takes sometimes to determine whether grass seed is going to work. I gave this a good month and received zero literally zero germination.
