Review: Every teacher should have a copy - The most comprehensive book.on teaching reading Review: A Text - Some chapters, or sections seem to be a compiliation of lists... Long lists and long sentences. Other sections are easier to read. Overall, it is a compact of research for the latest research on reading (SOR). I have read into chapter 8. I feel the money I spent on it was well worth it. You will want this as a reference after you read it. You will want to mark it up and make notes in it.

Content outstanding; Font & Page size horrific!
Content is outstanding, however, the size of the font and pages are way too small to make it unusable. The pages and the font need to be larger. Pages need to have more white space. I ended up having to order the printable copy.

Essential for Literacy Teachers
A comprehensive book that covers everything literacy related with up-to-date and relevant chapters based on current reading science and research. This book is ESSENTIAL for literacy educators! It has everything and more! I delayed buying because of the price but now wish I had bought it sooner. It likely would have saved me money as in the meantime I bought many other books when I could have gotten all the info right here. I wish this had been my textbook during university. Each chapter is written by well-respected leaders in the literacy world and up to date with current Science of Reading research. This book is so research-based - in fact - at the end of each chapter, there are few pages of resources and references behind the info in the chapter. Definitely get the 4th edition. The authors indicate that there are quite a few changes and additions based on SOR research and this edition is much more in line with Structured Literacy than previous editions. Chapters cover: multisensory teaching, structured literacy, pre-reading, alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, beginning reading, executive function, decoding, spelling, handwriting, fluency, advanced reading, vocabulary, comprehension, writing and composition, dual language learners, older students, dyslexia, etc. It literally covers it all! Readers are provided the research and information but also given practical teaching methods and activity suggestions. The book is very thick and written like a textbook, but the information and writing style is not dry and boring. Since each chapter relates to a specific literacy skill it can be read cover to cover, or just flip to a chapter that interests you.

Excellent Resource
This book is an in depth resource on literacy proving extensive background knowledge of teaching how to read. This is a text book format with evidence based learning. Great for study groups, as reading and digesting alone is strenuous. This book is not a light read so if this is your first book in the Science of Reading Genre it is not for you.
