Mityvac MV7400 Manual Fluid Evacuator with Accessories

I'd seen this evacuator in some car care catalogs I get, but for around $75 instead of the $52 Amazon charges. I generally am fine with going under the car, but I have an S2000 now and it's too low to go on my ramps. So, I bought this after reading many reviews. In short, this works great. I got it in 2 days after ordering, and it was in perfect shape. I checked, and there were no cracks or crazing in the plastic where it was screwed together. The translucent plastic also appears to be very thick - I can't imagine the vacuum pump in this ever being strong enough to collapse it, as one review described. I work in an engine laboratory and deal with automotive tools daily - this is as high quality as most other tools you'd find in a professional garage. I found the instructions to be just fine. They're only one page, but this is a simple device. In short, there are three tubes that come with it. The largest is designed to connect to the evacuator, and the other end connects to either of the smaller hoses. The small hose fit in the dipstick tube on my S2000, and it was easy to push it down to the oil pan. If you do it slowly, you can feel when the hose first touches the bottom of the pan. The engine oil was still warm from my drive home. I removed the oil fill cap on the engine and pumped the handle on the evacuator 10-12 times. The oil began to get drawn into the chamber quickly. I went inside for 5 minutes or so. When I came back out I had about 1.5 quarts of oil removed. I repeated the pump and wait routine twice more. By then I had most of the oil out and it was mostly sucking air. I did one more pump cycle to make sure I'd gotten as much as possible. According to the markings on the tank I had about 4.7 liters of oil, and the engine holds 4.8. There was easily enough left in the oil filter to make up the difference. After refilling and running the engine there was no sign of dirty oil contaminating the clean stuff. I'm confident that this got as much oil as using the drain plug would have. The best part was that I stayed clean - I did the whole job in my street clothes. Pouring the dirty oil into my recycle container was easy and clean too - the opening has a funnel tip on it so that the oil pours cleanly. If you can't get under your car easily, or you're just tired of doing that, I highly recommend this tool. Of course, you'll need to be able to get the oil filter off from the top of the engine to do the whole oil change, but if you can, then this beats putting the car on ramps, changing clothes, going under and getting oily, cleaning up, etc. I see this getting a lot of use at my place.

I have been using the MityVac with Mobil 1 synthetic oil with no problems at all. I only use synthetic oil in all my vehicles and lawn equipment, and after using for several oil changes, there are no problems with the MityVac related to synthetic oil that I have noticed. I am revising this review because I noticed that some of the other reviews cited problems with synthetic oil. I give this product 5 stars. I purchased the Mityvac 7400 from Amazon. I use it to change the oil in my vehicles and lawn mower. The benefit of the Mityvac is easier handling of the used oil. It is less messy than oil splattering from the drain plug into a pan. But remember - you still have to deal with some of that while you change the oil filter. The included hoses are coiled up, so when you use them, it is easy to drip everywhere on your engine and driveway when you pull it out after oil removal. I found that a 5 foot section of PVC pipe with a couple of end caps from my local hardware store solves these problems. It provides a neat place to store the tubes between uses, and keeps them straight so that they are easier to handle while removing from the engine compartment. Highly recommended, but don't expect this product to enable you to change your own oil if you are not already comfortable with a more traditional process. I also purchased the brake bleeding attachment but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I got two oil changes out of my MV7400 and they were great. I'm now sold on the idea of vacuum oil extraction. Unfortunately, my MV7400 failed catastrophically during my third oil change. Oil came out of the handle and sprayed everywhere. To finish my oil change, I put the MV7400 in a 5-gallon bucket and put a plastic bag over the handle and kept pumping as the oil sprayed into the bag and then dripped down into the bucket. I was able to retrieve 3 of the 4 quarts of oil in the engine before I gave up. I'm not that upset about the failure of my MV7400. It's a fact of life that stuff breaks and sometimes even good products fail prematurely. However, I'm very upset about the way that the MV7400 failed. A simple loss of vacuum or a broken part would have been irritating but understandable. To have the device fail like the Deepwater Horizon, spraying oil all over myself and my garage, is unacceptable. No one should have to endure having an oil extractor suddenly turn into an oil sprayer. The design of the MV7400 needs to be changed to prevent this. I re-read the instructions for my MV7400 and ran across the following: 8. Remove the reservoir adapter from the reservoir, pour the used engine oil from the reservoir into a suitable container, then dispose of the oil in an appropriate manner. 9. Rinse the evacuator reservoir, pump, adapter, and tubes with clean solvent or engine degreaser, and allow them to dry thoroughly. I did not do this. I have small cars that only hold 4 quarts of oil while the MV7400 hold twice that much. I left 4 quarts of oil in the MV7400 for months between today and my last oil change and doing so probably ruined the pump seals. However, this brings up two important points about the MV7400. First, why does the pump have to be in the oil at all? Other vacuum extractors do not immerse the pump in the oil and are unlikely to turn into oil sprayers unless overfilled. Second, I purchased a vacuum oil extractor to make my oil changes easier and cleaner. I'm fairly certain that disassembling the MV7400 and cleaning it as prescribed would be less convenient and messier than simply draining the oil in the old-fashioned manner. I now plan to purchase either a Pela PL-6000 or Liquivac Topside oil extractor. They're both reasonably priced and have a vacuum pump that is not immersed in the oil. Live and learn.

Simple pump system thats works quite effieciently. Comes with 3 different diameter tubes, 2 of which are smaller diameter to fit dipsticks, and one large tube. The evacuator itself is about 3 1/2 feet tall give or take. Definitely of thick, heavy, dense, quality plastic, so breaking or wear on the evacuator is minimal. It is like a bike pump, you pump it up and down. There is a cylinder in the middle that is seperated by plastic from fluid. So there is no fluid cross contamination or worries about fluid getting into the pump, everything is sealed nicely. The handle is a nice sturdy size and the vertical piece connecting to the pump is about a 1/2 inch in diameter and doesnt feel like it is flimsy. I pumped quite violently and hard and it stood up without issue. There is a small U shaped kick stand that keeps the Mityvac balanced while pumping. The tubes come with seperate adapters that are each FOR THAT TUBE, MIXING TUBES AND TUBE ADAPTERS WILL RESULT IN POOR SUCTION. The adapter goes into the pour spout, which stays snugly with its two ridged seals. I used it 3 times so far, one for a TDi engine oil change, a Lincoln oil change, and a lawn mower oil change. Worked great for all three and got ALL the oil out. I definitely reccomend this if you do your own oil changes. Saves time, effort, and will last. Only thing that sucks is the price at $70, but I believe it can last for a very long time without problems Biggest thing for me is I dont need to jack my car up to get to the oil pan, but for cars that have filters underneath and NEED to be jacked, It gets rid of having oil splash all over you and minimize cleaning Tips -For oil, make sure the oil is warm or somewhat hot, but NOT AT FULL OPERATING TEMP. YOU WILL MELT THE TUBES. Wait until the temperature is about halfway between COLD and NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. The oil will be warm enough to come out smoothly. -Make sure the tube adapter is dry and not wet at all, it helps with the seal - Pour out fluid into a different container each time you do a fluid change, you dont want dirt and grime to sit in the Mityvac -Pump at a continuous rate, I find that a full pump every 2 seconds is good enough to keep a good flow going -Clean adapters and hoses after each use, fluid will get stuck and be a pain later on. Just pump the fluid out into the MItyvac until the line is clear. If the fluid is too thick. remove the tube, place it vertically so that the fluid will drip out into a container, it may take some time but it does the trick -The tube adapter goes into "2nd adapter", you can pull it out with pliers and make pouring easier P.S. oil change for my car took 5 minutes total

Makes oil change easy

works well,extracts oil very well,almost all.only negative,took about 45 minutes to drajn all oil but, it saves from getting under car.does work very well, I like it.I would recomend it to other buyers.

Bought this to pump oil out of my Mercruiser boat engine. Tubing was long enough and small enough in diameter to snake the dipstick tube into the oil pan. Worked great, although I think I might have left a pint or so of the old oil in the pan. But since I change the oil and filter every fall when winterizing, it is no big issue. Will try to make sure the tube is a little deeper the time. Bought this particular product on the recommendation of my marine mechanic since that is what he uses.
