With this you just pop open the battery door, throw a new pair of AAA batteries in and you’ve got another 200–600 shots depending on your power settings. This type of flash is in its element when paired with smaller modern cameras that don’t necessarily have a built-in flash, though honestly, even if you do have a pop-up or fixed flash I'd still consider one of these. It’s just flat out better than most built-in flashes and I personally rate this higher than practically every built-in flash I've experienced, except for the lack of TTL. The optical sensor on this is a nice touch though and it works great in combination with built-in flashes, so you get a little fancier with the lighting composition if you’d like. The sensor triggers reliably from several meters away and it’s a quick and easy way to add some extra fill light from the side or potentially bounced off a ceiling. The main thing to keep in mind with this is that it’s a manual flash and you’re going to have to learn which settings go together, which may or may not be a dealbreaker for you.
