It is canvas not synthetic and it is very waterproof great jacket I have 2 one green and one camel colour they have a lining in for winter and Fastened with buttons and removable for the summer so you can wear in winter and Sumer hope this helps

Q: I have a 49" chest, what size should I order for the M65 jacket? I intend on wearing it without the liner.

I suggest getting one size smaller than the listed size for a good fit without the liner, which the sizing incorporates. So if XXL is 45-50" it's probably best to get an XL.I have previously purchased a Large (my regular size) and returned it in exchange for a Medium for a good fit without the liner.

Q: Is This jacket water repellent?

Like others, when new, it does have quite good waxy water repellent qualities. However, that does fade and I treated with spray waterproofer and it's as good as vortex.
