Q: Could this work with a Barbie head? Or is the neck connector wrong?

I only purchased the head not the body so I have no idea. But I am going to assume that since Barbie has a rather large neck opening and most of the neck plugs are on the smaller size that you would need to bulk it up in order to get the Barbie head to stay. This can be done easily by wrapping the doll neck plug with something like tape or epoxy until it’s large enough for the head to stay on. However I should note that the skin tone on the body might not match the Barbie head
