Great grammer
I would recommend this grammar to anyone wanting to learn the basics because of it's lessons that are well organized and explain the workings of biblical Hebrew well.

Ecxellent introductory Hebrew grammar
I think Pratico and van Pelt made a huge effort to simplify Hebrew grammar. They use such good guidelines to understand complex concepts of Hebrew words. This effort is more apparent in the way they handle the Hebrew verb. Instead of suggesting memorizing lots and lots of tables, they recommend memorizing just a bunch and they give a kind of clues to recognize the stem and the person. I love this grammar and I eagerly recommend it!!!

Ever hear of guidelines, Zondervan?
My first impression using this workbook was "it was easier when I was a kid and had a fat pencil and wrote on paper with those lines defining the top, bottom, and middle of where I should form the glyphs of each letter. Hebrew orthography has evolved over the centuries and what distinguishes one letter from another is obscured by the various tittles (serifs) decorating letter strokes. Some letters use ascenders (above the top line) and others use descenders. It's helpful to keep these in mind from the beginning. My advice to the purchaser of this book is to first get a ruler and #2 pencil and draw faint lines between each exercise. Second, find something targeted to Jewish Kindergarteners to learn how to write block letters. If you use a computer, look up a font with sans-serif glyphs and use that and learn how to switch between default and Hebrew keyboards.

Adds to Other Learning
I am actually in a Hebrew class taught online by an institute in Jerusalem. There workbook and text is so poorly written that you do not really learn from the book. I purchased the Basics book to help me with the other class. I find now that I spend more time in the Basics than I do in the text for this other organisation. I believe that purchasing the Basics book is going to help me get my certification in the other class. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book for learning to read Biblical Hebrew
This excellent book is like gold in value for learning Biblical Hebrew. However I learnt most of the Hebrew from the authors' Second Edition (2007). My only criticism of this Third Edition is that they removed the transliteration content that existed in the Second Edition. The fonts are larger in this Third Edition which makes it easier to read vowel markings. I highly recommend this book.

Great book along with resources by the same authors
The back of the book recommends both the workbook and DVDs of lectures that take you through the book. This is a great combination. I now feel more confident that at 62, I can learn this language, plus I learned NT Greek long ago. I'm very glad this is available for I have not seen anything like this combination around anywhere.

Great Work
I use this book as a supplement to biblingo. For someone with no gift for languages and near to the forties, this combination is awesome.

Best Biblical Hebrew Grammar ever
I bought few biblical hebrew grammar, each of them left me with the same confusion regarding grammar rules. This grammar instead is extremely well done. Well organized, all topics are described very clearly giving the student the confidence and clarity needed to learn a difficult ancient language and providing detailed information both on basic topics like vowel reduction and more advanced topics like weak verbs.I definitely consider this the best Biblical Hebrew Grammar ever for students in the first two years of study.
