Do Small (SFX) PSUs Have Different Cables to Regular (ATX) PSUs?

Yes, they do. SFX PSUs come with significantly shorter cables. These units are built for very compact PC cases that don’t require the long cable runs typical of standard-sized PC cases.

Does the quality, design, or actual connections differ when compared to large ATX power supplies?

No. They use the same types of cables. While you can technically power a full-size PC with a smaller SFX PSU, the practicalities can be troublesome. In mid-to-large PC cases, it might be impossible to stretch the short cables far enough.

What type of case should I use with a SFX PSU?

SFX PSUs should only be used if you plan to build a PC in an SFF (Small Form Factor) case.
