Are these about the same size as a gallon of milk? Will two of these fit in a milk shelf in a refrigerator?

I have a very tiny fridge so I really cannot say. However the bottom of a gallon of milk measures 6" X 6". These containers measure 5&1/2" X 6 &1/8.Hope this is helpful.

Can you use it for hot liquids?

Depends on how hot, but I don't see why not.

What is the lifespan of these jugs?

I bought mine (six) in 2011. Hand wash them all. Look brand new. You just have to carefully screw the tops on, otherwise they will leak (common sense).

Are these containers the one with the red lid and the one with the green lid clear? They look white in this photo.

Don't know about a green lid ... the pitcher is translucent not white.
