Advice from a recognized master penman how adults can improve letterforms, legibility, legibility and make written language both fun and expressive. Unlike traditional primary grade handwriting manuals that seek to introduce the basic techniques of written language to young students, The Art of Cursive Penmanship presents the subject of handwriting as a valuable and spontaneous skill for the adult. In this context, it remains an intimate ability of communication and expression; a personal asset for life. By internationally recognized master penman, Michael R. Sull, The Art of Cursive Penmanship focuses on practical self-study techniques designed to accommodate anyone's personal or professional schedule. With determined and consistent use, the daily application of these methods will result in progressive improvement of letterforms, legibility, letter spacing, creating one's signature, the appearance of an individual's penmanship, and the physical action of handwriting through proper posture, correct use of hand and arm muscles, paper position, and a comfortable speed of writing. Recommendations are also offered on the most efficient writing instruments to use, so that handwriting becomes a pleasant activity to be enjoyed, rather than an action merely to be effected. Review: Excellent content - The lesson structure and examples are very clear, easy to follow, set out in a logical sequence, and build skill through useful repetition and practise. I have progressed through the lower case letters and can already see and feel an improvement in the shape of my letters, flow across the page, and coordination of my hand and arm movements. Highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn or improve their cursive writing. The book itself is too bulky. I would have liked the instructional section with the lesson plans, model letters, and example texts all together in a slimmer volume with the practise sheets in a separate volume. I wish the publisher would sell just a blank workbook with the slant guides for sets 1, 2, and 3. Then I would be able to keep the book as a valuable unmarked reference with my own scribblings in a separate workbook. I've been making photocopies and it's quite a pain in the neck (literally!) Hey, why not go all out and provide a digital download of all the practise sheets? Don't let that put you off what is a fantastic learning resource. Review: Interesting book. Excellent quality - You just have to be disciplined and put loads of work to get results as expected. Helpful and it definitely would be a lovely gift.

The perfect handwriting book for adults
This is the book I've been looking for for a very long time. 'The Art of Cursive Penmanship' focuses on the classic American handwriting and is an intelligently structured handwriting guide for adults.

So heavy....
I don't know if this book needs to be this heavy. It looks like a very good piece of paper, but you can't move it to a place other than your desk.

Good stuff in here but hard to follow as a course.
Odd one. Lots of American penmanship history, background information and general writing instruction. (Some very general- pens come in all colours and sizes and prices, find a pen to suit etc etc) The lesson plans come later on but don't cover all the letters. (Should I practice all the letters first?) I found it confusing going back and forth to follow the plan, read the background, find the correct exercise sheet and figure out what I was meant to be doing. Wish it had been structured more clearly as a course. Having said that, it may just be me needing a clear structure-will figure it out. Am reluctant to write in the book so am downloading and printing practice sheets as have no copier access. Will also get some Seyes ruled paper for practice. Some reviews criticise the binder format as making it hard to write in. I don't think you're meant to write in the actual binder but instead use copied sheets.

Might be good for school children wanting to learn script...
Not what I expected.... it is supposed to be new edition, but it does not contain some part that Michael Sull was talking about in review... Dissappointed, but missed return date...

Bulky, impractical, the opposite of what you expect from a handbook
It comes under the form of a gigantic ultra heavy binder except that you can take the pages out. It’s just bulky for no reason. The height and the huge spirals in the middle prevent you from writing comfortably.

Amazing Penmanship Book!
This book is amazing. I’ve complained that I didn’t know how to write cursive in a legible manner for years! I was taught the basics in third grade, but even in my thirties, my cursive looked adolescent. After reading the (very few) pages of chapters, I pinpointed several details I either forgot about, or never learned. Today, my first day of doing 2 lessons, I pulled out an old journal and began to practice. I was amazed! My writing ALREADY looks like an adult’s handwriting and is legible! I was so excited I pulled out some fountain pens I inherited, and realized I COULD write with them thanks to the proper education from this book. I would recommend investing in good copy paper if you want to use a fountain pen. I would not write in the book practice pages, but simply make copies. It suggests not writing on a pad or in a notebook (to specifically practice penmanship.) My copy paper was on the lower end, and my fountain pen feathered quite a bit. But with better copy paper, this was not a problem. I also read a review that said the book contained a bunch of irrelevant information on this history and how to write. These couple “chapters” are a couple pages in length and not excessive. I found them to be helpful. The chapters on writing posture, how to hold the paper, and the writing zone are essential. 95% of this book is practice pages. The “lessons” are merely a box with a to-do list; not reading 20 pages before you write. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. You can absolutely have amazing penmanship with practice of 30 minutes a day!

This Book is like Ever Green Tree. It wins time always.
There is no way this book can be faulted. It is a time honoured book. I consider myself to be lucky Together a copy.

Michael R. Sull „The Art Of Cursive Penmanship“, A Personal Handwriting Program for Adults
