Update...
I contacted the manufacturer (Lonpoo) because of the below mentioned issues of the speakers going into standby mode after 10 or 15 minutes of no input, then having the volume, bass & treble being reset to their defaults when coming out of standby mode. They replied right away to my email and provided a fix in the way of a software update attached to the email, along with instructions on running the patch. I have to say that I am extremely happy not only with the quick response, but with the fix! They no longer automatically go into standby mode, and when I manually turn them off and back on, the volume, bass & treble are what they were when last turned on. Very happy with these speakers! I've upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Very heavy bass...good or bad?
(Pic shown for size compare on a full size tower computer). The speakers most certainly are boosting the bass frequencies compared to my studio monitors. A lot of people will like this boost, so I didn't bash them for it. I guess, better too much and you can EQ it down, then too little and you can't get enough boost. Some nice features...can play MP3 files directly off a flash drive. Supports both BlueTooth and audio signal input. Nice looking pair, with removable grill. All in all, I think most users will like them.

Perfect Sound for My MacBook Setup
These LONPOO Plug-N-Play Computer Speakers are exactly what I needed for my setup. I’ve got my MacBook Pro hooked up to an external display, and these speakers integrate seamlessly via a 3.5mm aux cable. Whether I'm jamming out to music, watching videos, or on a conference call, the sound quality is impressive. The bass and treble are well-balanced, making even my music projects sound professional. The Bluetooth 5.3 and USB playback are handy additions, especially when I want to switch up my audio sources without reaching for cables. The design fits nicely on my desk without taking up too much space. Connecting them was straightforward, and the inclusion of isolation pads helps in reducing vibrations. These speakers truly enhance my computer station. Simple and minimalist design. It's perfect for me. I recommend them.

Review for both Powered and Passive
In case this review would overwrite my review of the original powered version of these speakers, I am including both and separating them with a line. This top review is for the passive speakers. The build quality of these are pretty decent, though not perfect. The edges of the vinyl wrap can be a touch noticeable. The speakers lean back slightly, making them suited for desktop uses. They are also rounded on the front and rear top nd bottom edges rather that the top and bottom side edges, which gives them a unique look. The crossover is the absolute minimum, jut a capacitor on the tweeter. Even the powered versions had a capacitor and resistor on the tweeter. Overall, pretty decent. The sound is, much like the powered versions, on the bright side. You can get decent bass, and there are not odd sounds from the bass, but the most noticeable sound characteristic is that they are bright. I recommend reaching for the treble control.______________________________________________________________________________________________Powered Review Below:Update 3-2-2024After my review of 2 stars, the company reached out and sent a second set of speakers. Pretty much all of the "issues" I listed in my original review (see below) were not present in the new set. The distortion on lower notes can be present on tracks with heavy bass and with the bass on the speaker turned up. Only certain tracks cause it to be overly noticeable (like "Children of the Omnessiah'). Most normal tracks, even with good bass, do not cause this. You can alleviate it by turning the bass down and/or the volume down. The overall sound signature still matches my original review, though turning down the treble on this one did seem to clean up the harshness more. One annoying thing that is still present is that after enough time of no signal, the speakers turn off. When turned back on, they default to the standard volume, treble, and bass settings. They also default to Bluetooth, so you will have to change everything to where it should be.Overall, this new set has been a good improvement. Not perfect, but respectable. If you like brighter speakers, give these a chance._____________________________________________________________________________________Original Review:Before I get to the specific issues with these speakers, I want to talk about the overall sound signature. I tested primarily with Bluetooth. These speakers are very bright out of the box. Harsh even. I suggest turning down the treble all the way, and then easing it up a notch at a time to find what suits your ear. Bass it a bit weak from these, so that should be pushed up to max. Even adjusting as such, the sound has a bit of an "edge" to it. It does seem to get plenty loud.Weight seems good for both speakers and the accessories are decent. The control knobs spin infinitely, so it is difficult to figure out where the bass and treble are without turn either all the way down or up before making adjustments. There is also no indicator to tell you if you are in the 3d mode or not.Issues:The contacts in the remote for the positive side were bent in/too recessed to make contact with the batteries so I had to pull them out slightly so the remote would work. The veneer felt like it was coming up at some of the edges. There was residual glue on the speaker face after removing the grills (which are totally removable).A screw was loose and sticking out of one of the speakers. All the way out and surrounded by dust. Screwing it back in revealed that the threading in the speaker was stripped, so it slipped out during shipping. It seems to be holding, but it is not really doing its job.The speaker that houses the amp makes a farty, rattling noise at higher volumes at lower notes. I'm not sure if this is caused by a loose component inside, the various air gaps through the plate amp that you can feel holding your hand behind the speaker, or if the woofer is defective. This noise is not present on the passive speaker. These have potential to be a solid alternative to sound bars or to be a beginner sound system. But these issues need to be addressed. It is possible that I received a bad set. If I get a good replacement, I will update this review.

Decent sound quality
These are a nice set of speakers for desktop or bookshelf use. They feel very sturdy and have a decent weight to them. The have a simple and clean look that will fit in almost anywhere. They don't have too much self noise, but it is noticeable if you are looking for it (especially is if using in a desktop application with the speakers close to you). I tested with analog and optical inputs. They perform well and do get very loud. My only complaint would be the automatic shutoff when no sound is playing after a few minutes. Having to turn the speakers back on each time gets a bit annoying. Other than that, a good value for decent performing speakers!
