I was very pleased to open the box and see how thick and strong these steel post base brackets are. Because they simply attach to the corners of a post, you can use them with different sizes of beams or studs: 2x4, 4x4, 4x6, 6x6, etc. The holes in the brackets are large and will easily accommodate large screws or even hex-head lag screws for maximum holding power. I will be using these to make portable stand-alone fence sections to keep the deer away from some bushes we planted last fall. I'll use the brackets to attach lightweight 2x4 posts to heavy base boards. The fences can be arranged as needed, with end posts joined together for increased stability. The posts won't be under load, so one base bracket per post should be fine. When the bushes mature they won't need protection, and the fence sections can be used elsewhere.

Definitely heavy duty metal mounting brackets. I like that these can be used on multiple sizes of wooden posts since they attach to the outer corners of the posts. That also is helpful when surface mounting onto a floor that is not quite level. These came with mounting hardware, too, which is important. I have no worries that the metal will give since these are quite thick and heavy. The black looks really good, too.

You need that post added as a later addition, or repair, or support and you need the base to be solid but can't lower a beam in place due to space, these brackets are great. Building something next to a wall, you'll have the outer side of brackets you can anchor. They can fit multiple sizes of lumber and the thickness is similar to a full surround 4x4 base. I have pics using a 4x4, but needed something for 2x6s and this will fit my plan so I'll be getting a few more sets. This doesn't come with hardware, so you'll want to get what fits your lumber.

For their size I have to say these posts brackets are just as strong, if not stronger, than 4 inch post brackets. I especially like that they are adjustable in width so if you need to change your fence and it requires a different sized post these can simply be re-used, and they are strong enough that I expect them to last a long time. I also appreciate that they go up the post higher than most and provide better support by doing so. If for some reason my opinion should change, I will come back and revise my review accordingly. As for my reviews, I am someone who is selective and particular and have no qualms whatsoever leaving an honest review regardless if it is favorable, critical or somewhere in between. I picked these up to better secure a new stud I put into my basement wall to mount a 65" TV. These are thick and offer plenty of added support. The holes are a little larger than the construction screws I planned on using so I picked up some larger bolts to install. I would've preffered they came with screws/bolts but overall very well made and built to last.
