The Trick is to Remove the Air Cap Packing (part#2)
On page 3 of the Japanese side of the manual, there is a troubleshooting guide that describes a problem called "katayori", which means offset, AND THATS EXACTLY WHAT I GOT: with the Air Cap positioned so the inscription is upright, I got a vertical spray pattern with waaay more paint at the top than the bottom. (see picture) If I rotate the Air Cap 180 degrees, the offset is reversed: there's more paint on the bottom than the top. Only after I removed the Air Cap Packing was i able to get a balanced fan pattern.
