The story itself moved at a bit of a slow pace, but the depth of the characters and the conflicts they faced with one another really got the story going! This story introduces to the X-Men en medias res -- in the middle of the action -- but still manages to work as a jumping off point! Don't get me wrong, I'm curious about what has been happening in Schism and Avengers versus X-Men and will certainly read them whenever I get the chance (and the funds, haha), but I didn't need to have read them to understand what was going on here. We are confronted with a Cyclops that is complex, nuanced, and morally grey for the first time in the X-Man canon, and the character Magik is pretty exceptional as well. The dialogue is snappy and thoughtful, making this book a truly immersive read! This was worth the money, and I'm excited to read the next volume. The fact that they chose Cyclops to lead this rogue team is interesting. He has always been the straight & narrow kind of character while Wolverine has been the hot head. I like this new Cyclops & I'm glad to see that the relationship with Frost is over with. Which makes her very vulnerable, something we do not see that often. Of course my favorite character Magik is there kicking butt so that makes it a big plus. The only complaint I do have is the art work, not a big fan of the artist but other than that its a good graphic.
