Open Spaces: Machine Knit Eyelets, Ladders and Slits

I was so excited to see that Susan had written a new book and couldn't wait to own it. I was not disappointed. I have all of her books and they are all wonderful, but Open Spaces is truly magnificent. The illustrations are beautiful and large enough to really see the knitted stitches. It is organized in a thoughtful and smart manner. And it is has unique and fresh machine knitting ideas. I have had the good fortune to be able to attend her seminars and classes and she is a natural teacher. This shows in the clear, easy to understand instructions she gives for each stitch pattern or group of patterns in the book. I enjoy paging through and just reading how to create the stitch patterns. The ideas in this book will spark endless creative knitting projects. Thank you, Susan.Also, if you are new to machine knitting or new to hand manipulating stitches check out Susan's Classes on the Craftsy web site. They are very, very good and I often refer to them when I am knitting as a quick reminder for how to do certain things like how to use my garter bar or how to do bridging when I want to try a new stitch pattern.

Given my spatial reasoning limitations, I learn by doing in a step-by-step fashion over time. After struggling to learn machine knitting for about 1.5 years, mostly through YouTube and Craftsy videos, I consider myself to be at a low-intermediate level. This book is fresh, modern, and has clear pictures in color to aid with learning. I highly recommend buying this book and closely studying it to become a better machine knitter. Her Craftsy or bluprint classes and YouTube channel make excellent companions to this and her other books. I think it helps to see machine knitting in action as well.

I like the book but 6 pages were upside down and backwards. Print was almost cut off at bottom of these pages. Debating on whether to return or not.

This gives machine knitters more clever ideas. Beautiful book.

Another GREAT book by Susan Guagliumi!!!!!!!!

I love this book. I may be biased though - I have all Susan’s books and all her classes on Craftsy. Highly recommended if you want to get more out of your knitting machine.

Another great book from Susan Guagliumi highlighting some more hand-manipulated stitches for machine-knitters. Susan is such a great teacher and her enthusiasm for her subject knows no bounds - she makes everything so interesting it makes you want to try every technique immediately. It is also worth noting that all the techniques and garments are very modern and stylish, which is very important when it comes to keeping the art of machine-Knitting alive. Susan has spent several years writing this book and it’s certainly been well worth the wait.

Creative play at its best! Thank you once again Susan for amazing book! It truly awakens almost too many ideas for numerous projects, so I have started to log my future ideas down on paper with the techniques you have shown us.

Susan Guagliumi never disappoints. Some old problems solved, lots of new ideas to try. When is the next book coming out?
