This is a really good, really BIG, ferro rod! I originally bought one with the striker and paracord lanyard but wanted one to mount for myself and use with my preferred striker so I also bought one of these plain ones. Either way these work exceptionally well, giving big, hot sparks that easily ignite any suitable natural or commercial tinder. The rod is relatively soft, so it strikes easily and makes lots of sparks, which means you can work with it from near the end and gradually work back as you wear it down rather than striking all the way along it from the start, and the size means that it will last a long time even though it does work so well. Well worth it's reasonable price and good value. I would buy more but I'm not sure I'll ever need them!

This is a big beast of a fire steel. Durable, reasonably hard relative to a softer steel and good for thousands of strikes. The only potential downside is the weight. Certainly not good for gram shaving backpackers, but then they'd probably just be carrying the usual Bic lighter anyway. For general camp duties and long term wilderness survival though, this thing is excellent. The lack of a handle is not an issue as it is large enough to get a good grip and there's nothing here to fail. Recommended product where weight and size isn't an issue. Mine are both 132 grams, almost exactly.

Produces lots of hot sparks reliably with very little pressure. Good size for big hands and easy positioning close to tinder. Early days but it seems to wear smoothly rather than forming ripples. A strip of Pro-Gaff wrapped round the drilled end keeps the grip secure. The large diameter means it won't fit standard leather firesteel loops on knife sheaths. Excellent all round, and is now an automatic pack. Highly recommended.

I got this fire steel a few months ago now and its safe to say it’s been on my belt every time I head out on the trail. Big, Chunky, Robust and gets the job done. It can throw massive sparks but is also good when you want to get it right down into your tinder and really direct that spark. If you’re in the market for a big old ferrorod, look no further. Here is your new favourite.

Seems like a decent product, I'm a complete beginner so not sure how it compares to others and not as easy to start a fire as I thought.Had to use a tissue in the end, and just about got it going.

Much larger than expected a really good sparker and very good bit of kit.It will last for a while under heavy use and is always with me because I was taught from an early age a sharp edge and fire are your best friends and for this price you can't go wrong.

A really good quality fire stick. It's thick and long, making it really easy to handle and to get a good consistent shower of sparks. Worth running some paracord through the hole and some duct tape around the top for a handle. No problems with this product at all.

Sturdy, sparks well and is much better than the cheap thin/short ones that come for free in most survival kits.

Does exactly what you expect it to do. I'm happy with it.I would have liked one with a handle. I'll probably mold one out of epoxy.
