Applied Artificial Intelligence: A Handbook For Business Leaders Paperback – April 30, 2018

This is a quick read with densely packed information for business leaders looking to understand more about artificial intelligence, its enterprise applications, and recommended implementation strategies. I am using it to aid my transition into an AI-centered company in a design role, so I found the introductory section especially useful in its clarification of domain terminology (e.g. "machine learning" vs. "deep learning", "MLaaS", "probabilistic programming", "AGI" vs "weak AI"). The Machine Intelligence Continuum (MIC) section categorizes machine intelligence by complexity in a way that's useful to non-technical readers. I also appreciated the authors' emphasis on ethical responsibility and the importance of prioritizing inclusivity, for both AI users and creators. The book includes many examples of companies that have already successfully implemented AI strategies, either as core business or in support of existing efforts. This is a well-written summary of what you need to know, with supplementary information available online through the book's website. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to understand more about AI and its potential applications.

Though a bit light on technology, this book is helpful with sound advice on how to define ones AI strategy. It’s biggest value comes from the sample use cases, across core functions of every company, and pointers to companies developing software/solutions to help deploy these use cases.

I bought this book to help me get a clearer view of scaling AI in corporate environments. Whilst the authors give a very good holistic view of all the elements needed to consider, I found they tended more towards normal BAU operations, recruitment, funding and project management activities needed to implement AI.Whilst I acknowledge that these are very important to create the ecosystem needed to drive AI change, I found the advice quite basic 101 eg. Be sure to recruit someone with the right skills as this will have an impact on your outcomes.Whilst the book was a good attempt I found the result somewhat lacking and left me with a few holes eg. Since agility is such a driving force in organisations, I found the section on delivering AI using agile techniques quite lite. I refer to process agility here not business, structural and strategic agility.That’s said I don’t think there are too many use cases available (besides companies like Uber’s Michaelangelo, Google etc) that have made a success of thinking through and scaling AI within their organisations in an agile manner. I therefore found the MLaaS section and its surrounding commentary the most valuable.As more and more use cases become available, and Mariya and Adelyne continue to research, I suspect the next revised version will be much more powerful. This version is a good start.

Easy to read and incredibly informative book giving business executives a crash course in artificial intelligence lingo, types of offerings, supplemented with useful real world examples and applications. The sections on moral and ethical considerations for AI was also presented thoughtfully. This is a practical guidebook to help businesses navigate step by step through the decision and priority framework of bolstering their AI capabilities starting with the basics of company culture and C-level support. Highly recommend.

I’ve expected a deeper level approach, but overall is a nice book. Appreciate a lot the references mentioned after each chapter.

This is an excellent resource for business owners like myself who are interested in AI, but weren't quite sure how it will change the nature of our work. 'Applied Artificial Intelligence' is keen to note that artificial intelligence is only as good as it's programming. And that programming is inherently biased based on the views of the programmer. To this end, AI programs can produce inconsistent results, even when implemented correctly. I'm not sure if the solution to this is better programming or better understanding of our customers. Since AI talent is scarce, it will take time before these methods will be adapted on a large scale. I agree with the quote about the challenges of AI: "The future is already here, it's just not evenly distributed." - William Gibson. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a handle on how AI is shaping the business landscape today.

Wanted to give a better review as the book has potential and authors likely have a lot to contributeUnfortunately two main concerns:- frequent references to digital business models like Amazon or Google really don't apply to many other firms without the scale of these massive firms or their digital products- frequent sales-like references to the book website take away from what could otherwise have been useful chaptersIt is a quick read (few hours tops) and has some useful frameworks so if you know that going in perhaps worth the reasonable Kindle price

I worked in government for over a decade making policy decisions about environmental protection and public health. I picked up this book because I’ve been curious about how automation and AI will change our society as well as our governance models. While a lot of the book focuses on corporate applications, I did find the sections on ethical AI, defense against malicious uses of AI, collaborative design of AI systems, and reskilling of displaced workers to be very insightful and relevant for improving public service. I also found it useful to understand the concept of “technical debt” and alternatives to accuracy as measures of how well machine learning systems are performing. Overall, I found this book to be a useful introduction and look forward to learning more about the space.

A boring and complex way to explain what is common knowledge in the field. And it gets obsolete very fast. Don't waste you time.

This is a very good book for beginners to understand the AI/ML, navigates through basic understanding of the subject, different stages and to identify area of use explaining the technical jargon in very simple way.

Too basic. Reading some reviews and the book description, I was expecting more.If you understand the basics ( I mean very basic general content you can acquire reading some articles) look somewhere else).
