Great writing, strong voice, excellent pacing
Just reading the first conversation between Special Agent Odysseus Carr and his Commander, Potchak, you can definitely tell that this was written by a military man. The dialogue is punchy and gets right to the point, which is essential in setting up these characters and helping us to become more familiar with them as people, along with their motivations. Distinguishing unique voices for individual characters is a difficult feat, especially if there are many characters involved in the central story, but Tigner pulls it off effortlessly. This almost reads like an episode of 24, with the pace going full-bore from the very first page. You immediately get drawn into this world along with Carr and you hit the ground running right along with him as he tries to avenge his squadmates.Although political thrillers aren't usually my cup of tea and anything to do with the military tends to go right over my head, Tigner writes in a clear, concise way that allows you to follow along very easily with the action. This book takes a rather on-the-nose look at government corruption, and you have to wonder if there's really any good guys left in government, apart from the complex and principled Carr and his savvy and ambitious sister, Cassandra. This story is a very interesting one, especially since it's based in a post-9/11 world, but even in this universe, al-Quaeda is still a palpable threat. This is a book that deals with both sides of the engagement - not just the men who fight for the safety and freedom of America's citizens, but also the backroom deals and television journalism. It gives a much broader view, which helps to give the readers a much better idea of what's going on at every angle. Highly engrossing read and heartily recommended!

Not a bad read, but have read a lot better
The story lis adequate. The book does not enthrall the reader not to put it down. The ending is very unworthy of the story. To me it seemed that the ending was rushed, just wanting to finish the story.

Review of Betrayal
"I received a free copy of this book." or "I received a free copy and voluntarily reviewed."A page turner. Twin FBI agents wrapped up in politics and power plays. One goes on a mission to Iran to destroy a reported Al Qaida training center. The mission fails and all agents are assumed dead. The other twin is the love interest of, and soon to be betrothed, of a man that has political aspirations for the presidency. He is on the short list for designated VP candidates for the incumbent president. The current VP is battling health issues and will not be able to run with the president. The VP hopeful has a man that helps him in paving the way to his goals. He can help achieve his boss’s goals by any means. CEO industrialists are all behind supporting him. His man has told him that his choice of the agent he plans to marry won’t help him in the upcoming campaign and should be dumped. One of the agents presumed dead is alive but remains hidden because he realizes the mission was rigged to fail and all the agents were to die. He’s the other twin. He sets out on his own vendetta to avenge the deceased agents. He gets back to the US to continue his plot for revenge. The plot roils into secrets uncovered, double crosses, and chaos.

It will keep you hooked...
And I don't mean just from the first page to the last. This isn't my first read by Tim Tigner and I have enjoyed the previous books very much! However, I can say without a doubt that this book is the one that makes me now anxious to read everything he's written that I can find!!!It's just sooo excellent for so many reasons! Yes, his character creation is always fully fleshed out, almost all with some redeeming qualities that often make them either somewhat likeable or relatable despite their evil deeds. His storylines are always intriguing and exciting with unexpected twists to keep you enthralled. His storytelling ability is smooth, easy to read and grasp never leaving you feeling like maybe you missed something and skipping back to catch a minor detail because even the minor details are presented in such a way as to make the mundane memorable. However, the emotional and intense relationships in this story carry a far deeper intimacy, insight and entice a far greater emotional investment in the reader. This storyline is scarily realistic and believable in the post 9/11 world of terrorism that we live in!! It will keep you up late into the night hoping and waiting for good and the strength of patriotic Americans to prevail, with fingers crossed and bated breath! I know. I began this book yesterday morning and finished at 2 am this morning!! I even read while preparing supper for my family!!My only disappointment with this book in the end was a surprise to me and not worth deleting a star in my review...it was over. No sequel when I wanted to dive immediately back into the next world-threatening adventure with these characters! And I tend to generally not be a HUGE fan of series as they often require reading each in sequence to get the most from each installment and that's not always convenient or possible for me and I hate leaving a series til I've read each one. LOL. Just a bit of OCD on my part but we all have our quirks. :)In the end, the bottom line is that this is one of the best books I've read in a very long time!!! Sadly, the threat to our world and the protagonists in this story which was extensive and a long journey ended far too soon. But they won't be forgotten!! Thank you, Mr. Tigner, for such an exceptional reading experience and sharing your scary and twisted ideas with us all! It's a pleasure!

A Great Action Packed Thriller
One of my goals this year was to read a group of authors that I knew wrote "my type of books", action packed, fast paced, lots of twists, FBI, assassins, nasty villains. This has them all.So here again I have find another great author alongside some great action reads this year from Brad Thor, Ben Coes, Mark Greaney and favourites Tom Wood, Mark Dawson, Simon Kernick, Victor Methos, J.B Turner, Lee Childs, Will Jordan, Daniel Silva, David Baldacci Matt Rees and Emlyn Rees. What makes me give a five star?If I am reading a book and cannot wait to read the next chapter, I want to stop everything to carry on reading, well then you know you have a book that is good!Written by a former Green Beret and Military Intelligence Specialist, Betrayal combines Vince Flynn’s hard-core covert action with Nelson DeMille’s/David Baldacci's gripping drama in a thought provoking and suspenseful and action packed thriller.WHAT WOULD YOU DOif you awoke after a mission . . .in an Iranian hospital . . .as the only survivor . . .of a terrorist attack?FBI AGENT Odysseus Carr is about to find out.But should Odi trust the man who saved him . . .or the man who sent him . . . or none of the above? The epic story is full of everything, twists, shocks, action, brutal at times violence, rollercoaster pace, a great action lead, Cassi an FBI Profiler and twin sister to Odi..This is one man's great battle, it seems impossible battle against the "Big Boys", the system, who to believe, who to trust, how to survive, and that's just Odi, at the same time Cassi, does not know what to believe anymore !Just loved the book and the author and gone straight in to "Pushing Brilliance"Five stars

Welcome to Trump's world ....
What a load of hokum. It's been a long time since I've read a novel so detached from reality and so ridiculously unfeasible. There was a time when I would be suspicious about the number of 5-star reviews a book as bad as this received, but now I just feel cynical about large sections of the population ---- if almost half the American electorate can vote for someone as awful as Donald Trump, it's not such a stretch of the imagination to see the attraction of this right-wing, jingoistic nonsense. The main story revolves around that old conspiracy-theory chestnut where terrorist acts are master-minded by high-up government officials and blamed on Islamists (although, strangely, the chief pawn in this conspiracy is trying to kill thousands of people, not because he's trying to earn his 72 virgins in heaven. No, he's into mass-murder because he feels bad that so many children are dying of disease in the Third World, and he blames First World governments for not caring ---- he may have a point, but would a humanitarian really kill innocents for such a cause?). The story is full of holes from start to finish, and the 'hero' is a redneck action-man with a PhD in chemistry. He's happily killing baddies in the most gruesome manner, but gets a bit upset when there's collateral damage in the form of a young lady who was sleeping with the target ---- his conscience is mollified when he realises she's a high-class hooker who chose this profession of her own volition, so that's all right, then. I could go on about the farcical storyline, the clichéd writing, the dubious moral content, the cardboard cut-out characters, the bad grammar and misuse of words (eg epidemic instead of endemic), but if I say that this is a novel more suited to Trump supporters than a thinking readership, you can make up your own mind into which category you best fit.

I do not believe it
The story of a brother and sister tackling nth international terrorism and corruption is a reasonable plot for a thriller. This has more twists and turns than an alpine track - too many in my view. The short chapters end mostly with a cliffhanger, to be picked up a couple of chapters later with the improbable escape/ resolution. As a thriller, it is engaging enough, but apart from too many twists, my main complaint is there is nothing credible in my view about the main characters. A novel that doesn’t bring its characters to life fails, even as a thriller. It is well written and engaging, pacy and inventive, but ultimately fails because the characters don’t come to life, and I just could not believe all the twists in the plot.

Recommended to my dad and everybody else
I normally like cosy mysteries - something like hearted and easy to read, but fancied something different for a change. So I looked to see what book was in my library and was also whisper synced, as I wanted a new audio book to download. I found this book (I think my dad downloaded it when he borrowed my kindle and never got around to reading- if he did he is in trouble for not telling me to read it) and as you can tell I really enjoyed the book. Just when you think you have it figured out, the author throws in a new twist in and is off and running (literally) in a new direction. So off now to buy the audio format too.

Disappointing
I am sorry to say I did not like this book. It started off well enough and since I read a lot of this genre for no other reason than excitement, I really thought I had found another author of rip roaring undercover adventure. Unfortunately the excitement dissipates and we find ourselves in a series of unbelievable scenarios involving a drinkable explosive, a would be VP and his campaign manager, and a black ops commander out for revenge whose sister has had her heart broken by the would be VP. A wee bit convoluted and not really enjoyable.
