Foul Play

The product came new as advertised. If you’re looking for a great comedy, this is it eventhough it has no CGI anything. This was filmed in 1979, so it was before CGI and all that tech crap. When i was a teenager, i thought it was hilarious, and i was surprised that it’s still a good movie as an adult. The script is genius. Enjoy!

I remember liking this movie when it first came out. Yeah, it does have a murder scene and other violent acts woven into its script; so unless you think it builds character in your pre-teen children, don't feed it to them. That being said, the film is quite dated, and Barry Manilow's warblings get cringy very soon. But Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase and Burgess Meredith never fail to deliver, and the innocent fun (by today's standards, anyway) is a welcome treat to anyone seeking a break from the witless, recycled dramedies we often see made today. Cheesy? Maybe. But young, cute, ditzy Hawn alone makes this flick worth its weight in carmeled popcorn, if that's your thing.

This review discusses primarily the quality of the new Blu-ray, because clearly many people have already weighed in on the degree to which they like the movie.The Blu-ray picture quality is simply stunning. The picture is extremely sharp throughout, there is virtually no grain (I hate grain in Blu-rays), and everything looks not only very beautiful-- but very natural and perfectly realistic. Colors, especially the fleshtones, and all of the other colors, look absolutely great, and there are a number of outdoor scenes in San Francisco to enjoy, in part due to the wonderful photography and the high quality of this transfer. The picture is free of artifacts and dirt, it's been nicely cleaned up (vs. the DVD, which I also own), and the Mbps are at about 32-38 Mbps throughout-- an extremely high bit-rate, which maximizes the quality of the transfer.This is really the best quality that anybody will ever see for this film. It looks positively brand-new, apart from the fact that new movies today are shot in high-definition, which was not a possibility back in 1978 when this movie was filmed.I'm glad to have this Blu-ray, as is obvious.In fact, the amazing picture quality actually makes me enjoy the movie more, despite the fact that I think Chevy Chase was terrible as an actor in it (his first film) and just not believable as a cop in any way. Fortunately, there is an outstanding supporting cast, many of whom you will recognize (if you were a movie-goer in the 1970s), even if you don't know their names. The biggest names are Goldie Hawn, Burgess Meredith, Dudley Moore, Chevy Chase, and Brian Dennehy. The well known "little person" actor-- Billy Barty-- also Chuck McCann, and Don Calfa (Don always has bit parts), have minor but memorable roles.The English subtitles are completely accurate, and it has subtitles in about five other languages, too.There are no other extras on the disc, but I'm not bothered by that. If you like this movie, I strongly recommend an upgrade to the Blu-ray.Enjoy!

Very humorous; there are a couple parts that are better uncensored vs watching on broadcast television. The end kind of drags on a bit however.

Funny movie. Goldie Hawn is a doll. Her and Chevy Chase have great chemistry together. Cute storyline with good natured humor that is rare in today's era of entertainment.

I waited over 44 years for this cult classic to be released on Blu-ray disc, and it was well worth it. The movie itself is not going to open up to much bravado, except for those who watched it long ago during a time when the world was much more innocent and fun. The side bonus is San Francisco when it was a great city - all captured during a different era. Technically, the movie is a bit on the grainy side throughout, but I can honestly say the movie has never looked better with this 2K restoration. The first detail I noticed was a single crease on Chevy Chase's denim shirt collar. Never noticed that before in the original flick. The clarity of the movie wasn't the only major improvement - the sound was booming with great result - as the opening title song sung by Barry Manilow never sounded better. The Blu-ray disc is quite basic and straightforward with no extras whatsoever. Totally worth the investment if you are a fan of the film and wish to add this piece of nostalgia to your library of memories.

Película de enredos con una pareja de actores que hizo buena mancuerna, Goldie Hawn y Chevy Chase. Merece llamar la atención a un incipiente Dudley Moore.

Enjoyed watching this movie again after so many years. It was a must have addition to my Chevy Chase collection.

…..Goldie Hawn at one of her best…..along with Chevy Chase, the story of a naive Librarian findinfpg herself in the midst of a criminal plot.Humour, comedy, tongue in cheek, as well as crime detection.Not to mention Dudley Moore…..those who remember and know his multiple talents…will be delighted to watch him in this film.It is “giggle with delight”, fun and laughter……not a central character, but an essential character, who, in the sidelines, steal his bit of the show.Almost if he has dropped in by mistake…..which in a way he has.Brilliant.

The three stars are for Goldie Hawn's effort in the film. Chevy Chase seemed to me as if his mind was on organising his next vacation...his acting and body language suggested he was bored!!! He has only one acting style which he uses in every film of his that I've seen. Who was it who claimed that Chase is a comedian...??? Yeah...right!!! Goldie Hawn tried to give the film and story gravitas but, without help from your acting partner, her success in achieving this was minimised! Do I recommend this film...um...seriously, I can't!
