Will it record while plugged into computer, and with the record button on? will it start new segments automatically based on mrecset.txt?

DO NOT purchase this product. It is a cheap piece of garbage. The so-called directions are worthless.

If it dies while recording will it still dave the audio?

Yes it will save all audio up to the point where it shuts itself off due to battery draining.
