I think the magnetic base will be useful as well. I was uncertain about the battery positioning and it is not in the documentation. I tried to find documentation on the Philips website and there is none for this flashlight. I read the description on Amazon and it says support is available through Amazon so no help from Philips directly. I was successful in the battery insertion and the flashlight works great. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Solid design execution – Controls are confusing – Expensive *by S***E on October 22, 2024* Phillips is a well-known electronics company so one can expect excellence in their EDC flashlight. You get this, but with an asterisk. The flashlight fits in your hand and easily fits in one’s pocket. It has one switch which steps through the lighting settings: low/medium/high/strobe/SOS. If you keep the switch pressed for 5 seconds on any setting, the next click shuts the flashlight off. Charging is via a USB port that is protected by a silicone plug.With the discovery of digital circuits, flashlights now have a plethora of lighting settings. This is not all good. With the Phillips, the user is not going to remember the 5-second switch bypass when he needs to use the flashlight. Even if he did, it does not really save much time. The next great development in flashlights is the use of multiple switches. One for light on/off. Another switch for all the other lighting settings that you don’t really use.The Phillips EDC flashlight is well constructed and is fabricated from stout aluminum. Getting to first light requires the battery to be removed and its outer plastic wrapping removed. It has a magnetic base that allows it to hang from steel objects. From its diminutive size, it emits a bright light that is equal to the 4D Mag Light of a generation ago.The Phillips has no holes for lanyards. It is forever a creature that lives in your pocket or bag. Its cylindrical design means it can roll away and drop into inaccessible places. A simple lanyard would solve this problem.This flashlight is pricey for what it offers. Chinese flashlights offer the same performance at lower prices. I also encountered a problem with the silicone plug on the recharge port. The plug is circular with a long stem that is trapped within the flashlight. The plug fell out and could not be reattached. I reached out to Phillips Customer Service. Three people passed the buck to another Phillips group.
