- Paper Pro with Marker Plus

I am someone who takes a lot of notes and makes a lot of lists. I have pads of paper and scraps of paper everywhere, both at home and in my office. I liked the idea of this electric notepad to always have a place to take as many notes as I want and to have plenty of room to make the list as long as it needs to be. I also like having them all in the same place as I won't lose them. I love being able to have a hand written list converted to text, though I believe you have to have a subscription to the reMarkable app for this to work. You get a short free trial, though I went ahead and committed to a year long subscription at a reduced cost (versus monthly) as I like the idea of being able to transfer my notes between my reMarkable and both my personal laptop and my business laptop (you are required to download the desk top app to do this).. Yes, this electronic notebook is expensive, especially for my primary use. But I have found it to be very worthwhile in the two weeks that I have had it. I am less concerned with the feel of the pen on the screen. That isn't a sensation that I necessarily needed to have. It feels fine but isn't why I purchased this. To me, there is no real noticeable lag in writing and the text appearing on the screen. If you erase something, yes, the screen refreshes but I don't find that to be a hindrance and it really only takes a moment for the page to refresh. Some of the features I absolutely love are illustrated in the short video I am posting with this review. The eraser is great to have for small changes. Being able to select a section and erase that larger area is fantastic. Then, being able to select a section and move it around the page is great, too. I have downloaded a couple of the templates, specifically the calendar templates but I have not yet explored other templates that may be helpful. I also have not yet imported a PDF to edit and look forward to trying that out. I haven't even read the getting started guide yet. As soon as I received it, I started playing around with it and I find it to be pretty intuitive to use. I will eventually read it. I chose to go with the color version because I wanted to have the option to use additional colors or highlighting. However, this is probably the one negative I will note with this in that the colors are not vibrant at all. This is a function of the type of screen that it has. You can barely tell the difference between black and blue or between red and magenta font colors. The highlighting feature does work when putting a brighter color over a dark font (magenta highlighting black, for example). So it is functional but have low expectations here. While it is more expensive than only the B&W reMarkable, I am glad I have the color options. It came with extra pen tips though I have not had to change one out yet so can't comment on how long they last. The battery life is OK. I use it a lot so I suppose I should not be surprised that I may have to charge it more often than others do. I also tend to keep it on, or forget to turn it off. Or, really, put it into "sleep" mode rather than turning it off altogether. But it isn't that hard to charge as it uses a USB-C charger, and I have plenty of those around. In short, yes, this is an extraordinarily expensive electronic notebook but I do find good value in having it. After reading the reviews and considering the potential of having problems, I chose to purchase Amazon's extended warranty. And while this is not an element of the reMarkable product, I have a Prime credit card and appreciated the option of amortizing the cost of this item over a longer period of time to help defray the cost somewhat. I do recommend purchasing a protective case for it. I thought the ones sold in bundles with the reMarkable were way too expensive (I don't need a leather case and their non-leather case was still a bit pricey) and purchased a CoBak case for it, especially to be able to protect the screen when the notebook is in my briefcase or backpack. I had good experiences with CoBak cases with my Kindles previously. I heartily recommend this product!

So, the real question is "Is it worth the high price" ($650)? I would have to say, yes. Yes, it is. The last few weeks I've been on sort of a buying frenzy of various tablet e-readers not unlike the kind that this review is about. In doing so, I've found that there are some very specific features that I'm looking for. This tablet e-reader does everything I hoped and needed. The charm is within the unit itself. While other e-reader tablets find their prowess in being able to mimic a cell phone, in the sense that it will do (almost) everything a smart phone can do. That's not the case in this unit. In fact, I very much appreciate how simplistic it really is. It does everything is claims to be capable of, but not much else which I find to be easy to use. For people like me, and those who are distracted easily by the bells and whistles of other e-reader tablets, this unit proves to be a powerful in it's claims. I still have a few more tablets to try out, but unfortunately I am so impressed by this unit, the bench mark has been set. The real question, is it worth the cost? I think that this unit does what it claims to do, and does it well, but $650 is rather high. Sure, without a doubt this e-reader tablet is far superior to other e-reader tablets that are out there, but that is somewhat subjective. Meaning, if this does fit your needs, then yes it's worth the cost, but if you need more out of your e-reader tablet, than this may not be the right one for you. If you can afford this unit, then I say go for it. The downside to this unit (besides the cost) is that in order to be fully functional, you have to be prepared to pay for a service that allows you to save items and work seamlessly between your unit and computer and all the splendors that it touts. I've been spoiled by this unit, which makes all the others feel (and look) far less superior. So, the answer to whether or not this unit is worth the cost, well, that's up to you to decide. Love my reMarkable Paper Pro!! So nice to have an electronic notebook that is organized and does not bombard me with pop-ups from apps when I am using it (like an iPad or other tablet can). I had the reMarkable 2 but when they came out with this model (Paper Pro)...I HAD to get it. I love the backlight so I can read and write on a plane or at night outside relaxing on my porch. The other wonderful addition this model has is the color feature (which makes highlighting so much more fulfilling). I did have to get used to the size (the Pro is bigger) as I did prefer the reMarkable 2's smaller size, but the Pro is still compact enough to put in my big purse to take with me everywhere! Two things I would love to see reMarkable add: (1) Trade-In Program - I wish I could have received trade-in credits for my reMarkable 2 when I opted to upgrade to the Pro (as it was only 6 months old - frustrating to only have the option to sell second-hand if I wanted to recoup some of what I spent on the original). (2) A GPS tracker so you do not loose it!!! My husband purchased one but he is always misplacing it. We are currently trying to find a reMarkable cover or something that we can put an Apple AirTag on to prevent it from being lost or stolen.

UPDATE: I have returned the item 8 DAYS ago, the item was received at return center the very next day. However, my refund has yet to be issued, just still stuck under “item received” status. The refund issue date that was originally for tomorrow was changed to end of NEXT WEEK, which would put me ant almost THREE WEEKS since I physically returned the item. Not to mention the time it’ll take to actually credit back to my card. Absolutely absurd. Seriously, avoid at all costs. Original: I wanted to love this. I was so excited for it. I’m a student and after a lot of research I felt this would be the best tablet to keep me organized but needed it quickly. I received the item in a timely manner, but it has been a disaster. Immediately upon opening the product, it looked and felt amazing, high quality, well built. However, when I turned it on, it took FOREVER to load/turn on. Then, when it finally turned on, it wasn’t recognizing the marker that came with it for set up. Weird, but will skip that part for now. Then it got to the part of connecting to wifi but it didn’t recognize a single network. Again, weird, but I’ll move on and come back to it. I created a passcode. Then it displayed a “corrupted disk” display and that is all it has done since. I have tried clicking the repair button that is provided on the same screen, multiple times, no luck. I tried manually turning it on and off. I tried letting it charge fully, and I even went to the website and followed the steps of a software restore, still didn’t work even though it got to the last step. Finally, I contacted the manufacturer and they took almost an entire day to respond to each email, which is also a different person each time. They explained they would send a “replacement” in exchange but advised me to strictly avoid sending in anything aside from the tablet (no folio, marker, tips etc) because they will only send a replacement for the affected part (the tablet). Which would be fine, except this likely means I’d be receiving a refurbished tablet, not new and I did not pay almost $700 for refurbished. I even tried to work with Amazon instead for replacement but they said it would have to be through manufacturer. I’m sure the product in theory would’ve been great, but it has failed to meet my expectations despite my best efforts in trying to get it to work and even trying to get a replacement despite the poor first impression. Ill be returning and looking into something different, because spending HUNDREDS of dollars and having to experience a defective product on top of disorganized customer service is crazy.

However, for those who value a distraction-free, paper-like writing experience with thoughtful upgrades like color, backlighting, and a larger screen, the Remarkable Paper Pro is a fantastic investment. I recently purchased the reMarkable Paper Pro Bundle, which comes with the 11.8" reMarkable Paper Tablet and the Marker Plus Pen with Eraser, and after a few weeks of daily use, I can confidently say this is one of the best productivity tools I’ve invested in. The tablet is impressively slim, lightweight, and has a premium feel. At 11.8", the display size strikes a great balance between portability and having enough real estate for writing and sketching. The minimalist design is very clean—no distractions, no flashy apps—just pure focus on reading, writing, and annotating. The Marker Plus Pen is where this bundle truly shines. Writing on the reMarkable feels almost identical to writing on real paper—the texture and resistance are spot on. The built-in eraser on the Marker Plus adds an intuitive, pencil-like experience, letting me quickly correct mistakes without fumbling through menus. The stripped-down interface helps me focus without notifications or apps pulling me away. 5 star while it was useable. I purchased it 1 year ago for school. I have absolutely babied it. I just paid it off fully this month one year later. Some ghosting is expected like a yellow tint then it refreshes. This leaves black ghosting and doesn’t refresh quickly enough to deal with the issue making viewing infuriating and upsetting since I need it to finish school still. Currently working with remarkable support to see what can be done. You can clearly see the black artifacts left over. Update 1 year later: Remarkable team was amazing and has recouped 5 stars. I as able to return the device I had just paid off and they sent me a new one that works great. I have loved the RMPP for school. I use the pdf picture capture in the app to create a pdf file of my digital college books up to 24 pages. Then I highlight and write on those. I have also created a hack from 9 colors to creating over a 100. It’s all in how you layer the shading tool.

It’s just not living up to the hype for me. I had an older Kindle Scribe model that made me fall in love with the E Ink system, so I expected the reMarkable to outperform it since it’s marketed specifically toward productivity and work use. Unfortunately, it fell flat in comparison, and I’ll be returning it and investing in the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft instead. The erase function on the reMarkable feels glitchy and delayed compared to the Kindle Scribe. The Kindle pen has an easy-access side button that can be programmed for highlighting, erasing, and other shortcuts, while the reMarkable Pro pen does not. Although the reMarkable eraser is designed to resemble a real eraser, it’s hard instead of rubberized, which makes the experience feel less natural and more frustrating overall. Battery life was another major disappointment. I’ve only had it for two days and barely used it, yet it has already lost a battery bar. My Kindle Scribe, on the other hand, has only needed to be charged once in nearly three months of use. I understand the limitations and purpose of E Ink devices, but when another competitor is outperforming it while also offering reading functionality, reMarkable should at least excel in its primary purpose instead of feeling behind. I’m sure the reMarkable has features that may benefit other users, but for my needs — employee meeting notes, church sermon notes, Bible study, and personal organization — the Kindle Scribe simply performs better. The screen itself is nice, but the overall device feels slightly too large, making it less versatile and comfortable for everyday use.

Habituellement en prise de note sur des calepins en a5, je commence à stocker un grand nombre de ces calepins et retrouver des données devient compliqué, malgré l’archivage chronologique. Sur cette tablette, tout est logique et l’écriture est parfaite, le carnet entièrement paramètrable…. The reMarkable Paper Pro is a wonderful device and thus far I am loving using it. I love the size of the device, one of the main reasons I opted for the reMarkable Paper Pro and that it is dedicated for note taking and organising into individual folders, tagging pages, etc. Although you need to download and install an individual app on the computer for reMarkable, it's fairly straight forward, and adding PDF files if you have any eBooks in that format or ePub you can easily drag and drop across. For that, it is pretty decent compatibility with eBooks, just not for many of the other formats, unfortunately, but I'm not overly fussed on that as I use my Kindle Paperwhite for reading use. You'll find that if you use the device on full brightness, it's a pretty decent amount of light, you'd see that in person rather than from videos. However, intensive use that I use it for taking down a lot of notes from videos for my language learning, the battery will go down over the course of a day. I've used it just using a normal light and the backlight of it set to zero and it worked great. I had also done research and you can use the device whilst plugged into the laptop whilst it charges, it doesn't have any effect on the life of the battery. So long as you use it from time to time mostly away from charging to allow the battery to recycle, you're fine. The device for functionality is straightforward; learning to draw straight lines you just draw a line and if you hold it, it'll do it automatically, same for circles. Learning the menus are pretty straightforward, and creating a new notebook, don't confuse it as a page, you can create pages within notebooks, check the three dots menu and you'll find it there. I've found the quality of the screen to be fantastic, the device is very professional looking, I haven't had any issue with the light bleeding as some may have complained, I think it looks fantastic, it's a very textured feeling with writing and drawing anything. Whilst it is not going to be exactly like paper, it's good enough and feels great to write with. The refreshing of the screen happens a lot, but you get used to it. As for the weight of the device, I've found it's fairly light, I haven't had any major issues, it fits nicely alongside my Macbook Pro 16" and is nice and thin, I certainly have no issues regarding weight and is very portable, it just requires the right bag for it. All in all, this device is targeted for note taking and is not for all the bells and whistles of other uses like some of the other devices. I love the size and ability to use colour for highlighting which I do a lot and looks very professional. When connected to the computer you can use the app you download and install to export to PDF which I love. I'm very pleased with the device.
