THE BEST!!!
The media could not be loaded. I've tried a few of these jars, but this one takes the cake! It's got a wide mouth, so it's super easy to clean, stir, and add stuff. The lid seals tight, so it's perfect for fridge storage. And the silicone spatula is a lifesaver for scraping the sides and getting rid of those stubborn bits. This thing is a total game-changer! Definitely worth it.

Makes Sourdough Easy
I've always had a desire to make my own sourdough starter, but on the couple of attempts I tried it only ended in mould! Likely because I didn't have the right kind of jar or covering, and I didn't have an effective way to measure how much to feed it. Hence, when I saw this handy kit, I was keen to try it outFirst impressions are good, in the kit you get a Large Wide Mouth Glass Jar with Lid, Sourdough Recipe, Spatula, Thermometer, Date Marked Feeding Band, Breathable Cloth Cover. The jar itself is the star of the show however, being wide-mouthed, unlike a normal jam jar, means you aren't going to get in a mess trying to scope dough out or put flour in to feed it. Being made of borosilicate means it's tough and hard wearing, and can deal with high temperatures, so is dishwasher safe. The date marked feeding band makes remembering when to feed the starter a breeze also.In the kit you also get a recipe card for making your starter, which is actually very easy, simply needing flour and time, everything is well instructed, so It's hard to go wrong! You also get a thermometer you can stick on, but really simply being in normal room temperature is going to be fine.Overall, for just under £15 this is a great little starter kit, containing everything you need to get going..Great for kids to learn a bit of science and watch it develop too, and once you bake some tasty bread, get to eat it too

Well thought out design; very clear instructions really helpful
Really impressed with this - especially for a novice in using a sourdough starter. The instruction sheet is really clear and helpful. I have to admit it sounds more involved than I expected - I can now see why sourdough bread attracts the price premium it does. The labels on the band and jar about feeding made sense after reading this.I will certainly give this a try over the next week or so.Fairly priced at under £15.Highly recommended.

Nice set and good value
For less than ten bucks, this set had everything I needed and nothing I didn't. I use wide mouth pint jars to store my starter, but when feeding it to bake, I need something bigger, so I tried a wide mouth quart jar, but it was still hard to get the starter out. This beaker has nice straight sides and the spatula works great. I set the wood lid on top without closing to let my starter breath while it got nice and fluffy after a feeding. I usually use a rubber band to measure rise, but the included band was easier to slide around. I did not stick on the temperature gauge because I don't worry about that. After using the jar, I ran it through the dishwasher with no problem, but didn't like the water spots my dishwasher left on it, so I'll hand wash from now on. This was exactly what I was looking for and is the perfect size for how I feed my starter. I didn't need or use the little muslin cap but tossed it in my cabinet in case I ever want my starter to get more air.

It’s the wide mouth that makes this worth it
The wide mouth on this is really what makes it a winner for sourdough! I can get my measuring cup in the jar to discard my starter without making a mess, which is exactly what I was looking for.The rest of this set is pretty useful too. Instead of using a rubber band to hold a coffee filter over my starter, the small cloth with elastic edges looks much neater and seems to attract fewer fruit flies. The “last fed” band is a smart idea too, and the spatula scrapes the sides of the jar a lot better than my spoon did!I’ve been making sourdough breads and have been keeping my grandma’s sourdough alive for years without this kit, so it’s not necessary. But it sure makes everything easier!
