Filene's: Boston's Great Specialty Store (Images of America)

Great book on the history of Filene's Store in the Boston area. Brings back a lot of memories.

I loved Filene's, and prior to its merger with May Company, Filene's was an amazing store. I read this book in a little over two hours and learned a lot of facts, that I never knew. Filene's was an amazing store that had the potential to be as big as Bloomingdale's, but alas it succombed to the era of mergers and mega mergers. Any Bostonian or Department Store aficionado SHOULD DEFINITELY READ THIS BOOK!

A great piece of Bostonian history! As one of the kids of the Depression, I've recommended it to several of my generation who grew up with "Fleenes" and others who worked there. Should be in every Bostonian 's personal historical library because of its unique subject. Mr. Lisicky hit all the nails.

Thoroughly researched and entertaining book, but with minor errors. For instance, the cover picture is described as a parade of antique cars - wrong - those MGs were in fact brand new cars at the time of that parade.

As a collector of books on Department Store history, I found this book informative. More of a scrapbook than a book, there is a nice balance of numerous archival images & advertising with focused historical text.

I'm a department store maniac, and Michael Lisicky delivers another knockout with this one. Would make a great gift, or read for someone who loved going to Filene's. Wonderful details, memories, and pictures.
