I got these as I wanted some light when sitting out in the garden during the summer, such as after barbecues. I used them for the first time at the weekend there, and they were superb. Sitting round the fire pit after our barbecue, these gave lots of bright light. I actually found them almost too bright for our needs, so I was able to close them halfway to reduce the brightness.They are very lightweight and surprisingly small - I didn't expect them to be this small. But they feel very sturdy, and it is good to be able to hang them from a tree or the washing line.They will also be very handy for just going out into the garden at night, so I can see where I'm going. I will also keep one in the car in case of emergencies.Note - these require 3 AA batteries. It would be good if they were rechargeable, but at this price, I can't really complain about that.Highly recommended - they weren't something I thought I'd need, but now that I have them, I can see many uses for them.

I purchased these after initial buying a single one. They are great to have around the house in case of power cuts etc using 3 AA batteries. The case is made of aluminium, while the base and top are plastic. They are light to carry and easy to open. I purchased the additional set for my mother and have put one in her bedroom and one in the living room in case of power cuts. I also purchased a number of rechargeable batteries (saving a fortune) along with a battery charger/discharger. This allows me to regularly replace the batteries so that she always has fresh ones (along with a spare set). The LED give off a bright white light, enough to see what your doing in the dark. With the two metal arms it allows the torch to be hung to spread the light around an entire room. Excellent value for money and great to have in an Emergency. - Highly recommended

After last nights power cut! Thought it would be handy to have these at home. When they are closed they are nearly the height of a can of beans and when fully extended with its handles up, it is shorter than the height of a bottle of bleach! Hope that helps!

We hang them on a hook in the loft just at the top of the hatch, and when we go up the ladder you just pull the bottom bit down to turn the light on. Super bright and lasts forever on batteries. I left the light on once and went up about 2 weeks later to find it still shining bright!

I was expecting so much from these lantern that I bought 4 of them as they had good reviews. As per other reviews this lantern is small and compact. It does not have any way of adjusting the brightness. Once you pull the lantern to it's full height the lantern comes on.As for it's main purpose, which is brightness; it was non-existent!!!!! I cannot say this enough, my candle emitted brighter light. I tried all four lanterns that I bought and they were all the same. The brightness from this lantern was pitiful. I could not see anything as the light emitted was so poor.I have had to ask Amazon for a refund. I would advise you to look elsewhere and not buy this lantern.

Great - used already and had less than a week. Purchased because new houses in the village putting strain on our electricity supply again so back to frequent power cuts. 3xAA batteries in the bottom and ready to go. Pull up to turn on. Really simply and gives excellent light coverage.

This item arrived promptly and once batteried up did what I expected - that is lit up the room. It looks sturdy enough to withstand the normal knocks and drops of regular camping and there is an extra feeling of security having two of them, if only to recreate the normal reading at bedtime scenario enjoyed by Mrs. Starling and myself. So, we are off to Devon and though we'd prefer not to have a hurricane, if it comes my lamps will give us a better chance...

Terrific value. Two lighting units in one pack. Only three AA batteries (not supplied) required for each lamp. Unbelievably bright light from each unit. Best shade your eyes when first using !! Can't say how long the AA batteries will last but this is the best 'emergency lighting' I have come across and, for two units, excellent value and highly recommended
