Traditional puzzle; good!

My husband has been enjoying this book. I got it for him for the airport and he’s been working puzzles at home instead of on his phone. He’s a physicist so he works with math a lot. Some of these puzzles have challenged him so much he’s actually commented on it.

Finally a sudoku book that actually makes the puzzles gradually become more difficult.

I have been kept busy doing the puzzles - easy, medium or hard, depending on how ambitious I feel and how much time I have. Since I use pencil, I like the paper used in this book much better than the newsprint that is used in most of the books I have bought in the grocery store magazine section. The easy puzzles are typical (about 5 minutes solving time for me). Medium puzzles are mostly what would be expected for that level, however I found one puzzle (#90 in the 2025 book) that was ambiguous - there was actually not a unique solution. I came down to the last few numbers to fill in, and realized that it didn’t matter which of two choices I made - I got two different “correct” possible solutions. I verified that by putting the numbers into an internet Sudoku solver which told me the puzzle was “invalid”, and there were “multiple solutions”. Hopefully, the designers of this series have improved their Sudoku generating materials to avoid that in the 2026 and beyond puzzles. I have found the “hard” puzzles to be, most of the time, possible to solve without using special techniques like x-wings, forcing chains, etc. (which I am still not fluent in), but sometimes they are impossible without those techniques. They don’t seem to go from easier to harder as you go through the puzzles. Just at random, one of those puzzles requiring special techniques appears. Then the next puzzle is like a medium-hard - easily solvable with a bit of patience. Overall, I recommend this series of Sudoku books.

Bought for wife.

A child could do the Easy Puzzles. Medium ones aren't much harder. The hard ones take as long as it takes to write the numbers in the boxes. Apart from that, it's a good quality book.
