Superb book for a 3rd to 8th grade kid
I got this for a kid who is going to 4th grade and who was showing a lot of interest in space. This book has lots of detail and beautiful photographs. The words are simple enough for kids in 4th grade to read by themselves (with some help), while also having details which would keep an older kid engaged.I especially liked the format of the book. Its something that can be read both independently, as well as read together with an adult, stimulating conversation about space. Definitely a wonderful resource to bond with a child who may be interested in astronomy, or to spark their curiosity.

Great Intermediate book on Space
My 8 year old son really loves to learn about space. I bought one several years ago that's a "first book on space," but he had outgrown that one. This is like the next level up. It's nice because it's not too text heavy like some others I looked at, just the right amount of bite sized paragraphs. Love the photos/illustrations, too.

Interesting facts
I bought this for my son after he had checked out a book at the library and he really liked the way this book described things. I did, too.

Great book, best from 7 years old
Excellent! Perfect photos, lots of Hubble images, small portions of very informative text, and excellent balance: easy to fix eye on text or on a picture, pages are not overpacked with small objects. We spent two hours at this book with my kids, they can't read yet. But I must mention that this is not the very beginners book, some basic knowledge will ease understanding.

Excellent reference
I purchased this as a gift for my 9 year old grandson, who has more questions on planets than I have answers. It's perfect for him. It is beautifully illustrated, yet also provides excellent and interesting reading material. It doesn't have a childish feel to it at all, but is written in a way he can understand.

Informative but visually delighting
We got this for our 9 year old who has been glued to a comic book encyclopedia for months. Now he's obsessed with space, rattling off assorted facts and telling us what he's read most recently. While the book is mostly targeted at younger readers (7-10), as indicated by the overwhelmingly visual design of the book, it is still full of interesting facts and, most important for me, detailed descriptions of processes and mechanics that helped him learn more about the solar system and beyond.

Great read for space lovers. My 7yr old loves it.
This book is so great! My daughter loves space so I got this for her so she can read more about it. Iโm not too interested in space myself but this book was a fun read even for me. I sat down with my daughter and read so many fascinating details about space and itโs a nice decent sized book. I love that she can sit down with this book and read so much in one sitting and still have so many cool things to continuing learning after because the book is so big. I am very pleased with this gift

Not quite what I expected.
This book was purchased to help develop a kid's interest in the universe and I wanted to buy a hardback, thinking it would last longer. I received a paperback even though the invoice stated "hardback". I looked on the internet and it doesn't appear that a hardback copy of this book was ever published., so it may not be the fault of the vendor. The pictures are nice and the writing is suitable for a good 4th grade reader. I ordered this item from Salvo Books which has very pleasant Customer Service.

Beautiful book with lot of illustrations-Must buy
A very informative book having a lot of pictures. I bought it for my 7 year old kid who, although was not able to read much of the stuff, but was amazed when I explained him the details of various cosmic objects. For quite a long time, he could not believe that moon was a satellite of Earth and revolves around it. Overall, a book to cherish for kids from 7 to 13 year old. Best book for any astronomy loving child and inquisitive pre-teener.

1/3 of the length is not interesting at all for kids.

Great pictures, good choice of subjects
My 3 year old son loves space and having shown him this book, I found that I can talk to him around the pictures, often literally reading from the book. He has managed to learn all the planets and quite a few of the terms and concepts. Not something to read on its own, but it also interests my 6 year old son and me.

A nice book to flip through for kids to get excited about space.
It's not as much an encyclopedia as a coffee table photo book. But as far as its purpose goes, it works great! It's not your final destination for comprehensive information about space research, but it's a great conversation starter. My kid loves browsing through it and if something catches his attention, we can follow it on with some more detailed text or online resource.I must say though that the information is not always presented that well and some inclusions and omissions are rather questionable. In scientists chapter you'll not find Albert Einstein, Tycho Brahe or Hawking, while (with all due respect) some less impactful personalities like Edmond Halley or Antony Hewish are included. Don't get me wrong, they are still important, but who can honestly argue that discovery of pulsars or pioneering comet research is more groundbreaking as general relativity? Also, what the hell is Omar Hayam doing here? Same goes for technology section. Nevertheless, look, it's still good and covers all the main points... and the pictures are great!Print quality is nice and vivid, but the binding is unfortunately not very sturdy, so the book is quite susceptible to outer cover damage and separation.
