Ethernet/Network Cable Testing
Great tool for testing existing and/or new store bought, even for test self made cables for correct assemblyprior to job completions. This simple tool mat prevent you from going down "Rabbits Holes" or chasing "Project Ghosts"

it's ok.
essentially, this is a glorified continuity tester and it does that well. i was hoping for a bit more. i wanted to test transmission speeds but no-can-do and in fairness, it's not claimed. to that end, the 4-star rating seems fair especially, when i had to trudge around to find a 9v - ugh.more about continuity - i have a "bad" 5e cable that only works at a lower bandwidth. it tested fine with this device. in fact, i got the same test results on that cable as i did on its replacement which moves data much faster on the same physical ports. so yes, it's working as designed.

Worked great to straighten out the cat 5 mess I had at the shop.

Out of the box works well and does everything I wanted. Just got it so this is not a long term review.

Works!
Tester does not come with a 9v battery. Does sequential pin testing for continuity. QC test tells you if you crimped the RJ enough, supposedly. Tests RJ45, RJ11 (4-pin) and RJ12 (6-pin) cables for continuity. I do not have a POE switch so I couldn't test the POE functions, but I imagine it would test correctly. This is similar to other testers I have, though it would be nice if it came with a bag/case.

Super easy to use!
This cable tester is great! It's incredibly easy to use, and works well even on longer lengths of cables! Unfortunately I don't have the kind of equipment needed to test it to its fullest (PoE, or unfathomably long cables), but it works perfectly for any network cables I could throw at it. The longest I was able to test was ~100 feet. The overall use of the tester is simple: Just plug your cable into both the "Master" and the "Remote" side, and flip the switch to TEST! It will go through each of the wires in order, and will indicate if there are any broken wires/bad connections, flipped wires, or short circuits by reading the lights that appear on the Remote side. Additionally, the Master and Remote pieces are nicely slotted together so that they can be kept as one unit, or easily separated to be used across a building to check any cables that are already in place without both ends near each other. And not only does it test across the cable like that; it also allows you to see if both ends of the cable, independently, are crimped securely or not! While I again cannot speak for its ability to test and report on PoE, or incredibly long cable runs, I highly recommend this tester, and will be getting plenty of use out of it!
