Astrophotography approved
Thrilled with the performance. I do light gaming and some productivity but I've always gotten Ryzen 5 level chips. Decided I wanted to lean more into the workstation side of things a bit. This thing is a beast. Im an Astrophotographer and having a ton of threads is very nice for processing hours of data in short time. Also realized a lot of the games I play are a lot better in performance with 32 threads instead of 12. I play a lot of simulation / city builder games not so much super fast paced high FPS titles. City skylines 2 for example I can run full simulation speed now in a large city. With my 5600X I couldn't run more than 1x speed with a town of 300,000 or more.It does run hot. If you test in cinebench, expect the temps to top out at 95C with multi core tests. This is with a 240aio and fans at 100%. I'm lead to believe this happens even with 360mm rads.It was pulling 220w of power during the test, what do you expect. In gaming it hung out around 65-75 pretty nicely though.

Great CPU for my needs
I had the unfortunate experience of having to buy this processor twice - the first time I ordered it, I got a box that had clearly been opened previously, taped up and I found inside a $87 Ryzen 5 5500. I immediately returned and reordered, seller made great on the return and I was refunded so I'm happy about that. Second one came and went on a MSI X870 Tomahawk board. Clamped it into place, put my waterblock on it and fired it up. I'm coming from a Ryzen 7 5700X on a MSI 470X and the 9950 is well over double upon testing. I have not tried gaming on it yet but as far as my productivity with work, things are going so much faster for me. I have read plenty of reviews that say this is mediocre and not the best for gaming but so far I have no complaints at all. I hope to not have to replace it again for another 3-5 years.

Outstanding CPU
This 9950x 16 core 32 thread CPU gives you the best of both worlds. It's excellent for gaming and professional production applications. What's nice is since the initial release, AMD has fixed the latency bug in the newer AGESA Bios updates. This CPU is in all honesty a mini-Threadripper. The 9950x is very efficient and powerful. It's a great long term CPU investment. It's rock solid and the thermals very good.

This is all you need
Great CPU, superfast and not as hard to cool as I thought. 105W eco mode is good enough for most use without losing much performance.

Personal issues with mine but works.
Beware of the amazon/chinese lottery. Parts for a custom build all bought from amazon that had boot issues (not my first PC build rodeo, we were in either motherboard bus failure, ram issues, or memory controller failure territory). Could have been any of the three so taking off a start from all three. When it comes to processor/motherboard I have learned my lesson and went with another vendor that has better reliability. Had to return and get my money back. When I was running the processor on a functioning build it was powerful and had more cores than I knew what to do with so, its a good processor besides the BS

Loving the new Ryzen CPU's!
I have been using Ryzen since the 3000 series CPU's (I had a 3900X) and then upgrade from the 3900X to the 5950X and had been using that. I skipped the 7000 series because I was content with my setup and the X570 platform was a solid performer for me.But the time had come to upgrade my performance and I upgrade to the 9950X and I've been extremely happy with the uplift in performance. I had heard that the AM5 CPU's ran hot, but so far I'm finding my temps to be similar to my 5950X temps. There are excursion to 75-80c but it drops back down to my usual load temps of 65-68c (I'm using the 360mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III with Corsair LX120 fans on it).I'm as happy with the 9950X as I was with the 5950X in terms of performance. I have a mixed load of productivity apps (such as 3D rendering, and CAD) as well as gaming and I'm getting better performance in my productivity apps, and very similar or better frame rates in my games compared to the 5950X.If you're like me and debating on switching to the 9950X from the 5950X, I haven't come across any negatives in my upgrade and highly recommend the CPU and the X870* platform. It's my understand the X670* platform works well too, but I went all new across the board as it just made sense in my case to do so.

Fantastic.
So far this is exactly what I needed for a productive build. Easy to cool with a 280mm or 360 mm AIO. AMD has CPUs on lock right now. I just hope this doesn’t lead to stagnation. Also I wish their CPUs and motherboards were more affordable but just a product of the times I suppose.

Switching to AMD hasn’t been easier
After all of the controversy surrounding Intel’s 13th and 14th gen CPU issues, I took a glance at AMD’s offerings for my next build. I decided to wait until the launch of their 9000 series to decide which brand to go with, eventually settling on the 9950x. Though the jump from their 7000 series CPUs may not have been huge, the 9950x is a beast in performance. Not their best chip for gaming, but 3d rendering and adobe software has been really solid. And honestly, the gaming performance is pretty impressive too. Hoping there will be minor adjustments made to further squeeze out performance from these chips. CPU temps stay within the specified range and I haven’t had any windows hiccups. The 9950x is expensive though, so for a reduced cost, it should be on your radar.
