Based on a False Premise? The Kingdom within?
There is one important aspect of this book to keep in mind and number one is that the book is written by a student of Jungian Psychology which should raise some red flags. I've read only the first 35 pages so far and there is some great points made, interesting the parable couplet of the Hidden treasure and the Pearl of Great value. He gets into the 'ego of Jesus' and from there it starts to get a bit 'twisted' since ego is a term in psychology and did not exist at the time of Jesus, so now I can't help but wonder if he is psychoanalyzing Jesus in some back handed way, though what he writes is also well founded. The greater point is his premise on pages 32-33 where he writes, about Luke 17:21 that the KJV translates it as the kingdom of God is within you but most other bibles translate it as 'among you' or 'in your midst'..KJV has already been delineated as not a complete translation of the Hebrew or even the Aramaic Text in which it is thought Jesus most often spoke. A rendering from the Aramaic Translation will give 'in your midst', yet the author writes, "this is a result of the extraverted attitude of our time"...can he prove that? Just exactly who is this guy anyway. The book will most certainly appeal to almost anyone at that level, but again, I'd have to read the rest of the book which I will do...the Kingdom of God is within you then means it is in EVERYBODY already..if so...why did Jesus come to Preach the Kingdom of God and be crucified? There are simply too many verses in the bible which show this to be a false premise, if a person already has teh Kingdom of God in them..does God throw the kingdom of God into hell?..for the kingdom of God to be in everyone..could almost imply that indeed it is, but we still must enter into it..and we cannot enter it based on our own will but through God's Invitation and Enablement..otherwise, we are just as well not in the Kingdom regardless of where it is. Can the Kingdom of Great Britain be in someone? Granted it is not a literal 'place' but a 'condition of one's spiritual condition' that can only be RECEIVED through Christ's redeeming work of man kind. The danger of the premise of the title and his assertions is that it leans to new age philosophy ...any one is more than willing to accept that premise and not accept their own fallen nature (perhaps). Point is, if his initial assertion is incorrect OR not complete from that one's thinking and interpretation of the rest of the book is false because it will not be based on the Firm Foundation that "Peter, Only the Father Could have revealed that to You!"..That indeed, Jesus is My Lord and My God..through the Spirit of Truth..one cannot enter into the Kingdom without the Truth of Christ indwelling in them..therefore, the kingdom of God is not in them either..either off to the side..the more likely and apt phrase would be. We all have the potential to have the Kingdom of God inside you or for some leeway..we have the potential to realize it but not unless we receive but acknowledging Him and accepting Him,, the Christ As the LORD GOD, Marya, and Manifestation of the Light, the Milta, in the first bible verses of Genesis, as Savior Salvation and The Resurrection, and Life (Eternal Life), the Savior of the world. and as Delineated in John 1.

Wonderful author!
I love this book! Read it years ago and remembered how good it was so I ordered it as a gift. Printing was not as good as well as the paper, but you could read it just fine.

Life Changing Book
I read this book many years ago (1992) and loaned out my copy. I found the relating of the truths of Christ to psychological concepts of today to be "faith" building for me. I read this book when I was going through a discouraging time in my life and the words and scriptures quoted spoke to me. It confirmed to me that if we commit our lives to Jesus and what He taught us that we will be "whole". I remember thinking that He was so wise and that people years ago had similar concerns that we have today. This book literally changed my life and sparked my rededication to Jesus Christ. It is a book that is just as relevant today as when it was first published. I have been telling my friends that we need to revisit this wonderful little book because it is a "treasure" of spiritual nuggets that renew your spirit and soul. I recommend it for everyone but especially people working in pastoral counseling or Christian self-help programs.

... book set me on a new spiritual path of love and light
This book set me on a new spiritual path of love and light. It is simply and beautifully written. After reading this book several decades ago, a friend reminded me of this text as he was in search of a copy. I fished out my old copy and was reminded of the powerful witness to the inner life in Christ that this book offers. Subsequently, my friend was gifted a new copy of this book. Another friend was able to make use of my old copy, and I upgraded to a hardcopy of this text through Amazon.com. I'm delighted to recommend this book to anyone seeking to get beyond empty religious rituals and hear the inner meaning and depth of the teachings of Jesus. Superb.

Deeply insightful understanding of the words of Jesus
I lost my original book copy which I cherished and badly needed to review a thing or two from the "well" that is this book. To my amazement I sat and read it through almost completely once again, amazed as before at the depth of the insight into Jesus' words. The bringing together of sound psychology and religion is outstanding. Ordinary life and its questions are dealt with in a way I judge Jesus did. It is an enlightening book, one that generates reflection and provides foundation for living the christian life.To be recommended for any person who is curious or interested in understanding Jesus, the teacher, the prophet, the saviour as a guide for life.

This book was full.
I would recommend this book to those who sense a growing need for outward action, but also feel the pain of having left themselves behind in seeking an outer good. We sometimes give lipservice to their connection and this book helped me to begin a process of inner work (sometimes very painful work, actually) in which I could see the outer effect starting to take shape by the time I finished reading it.

Religion is Doing
I would change the book title to “The Kingdom Within Imagination” for the following indications.Religion is doing. Also, man cannot do but without him it will not be done. It is man’s birthright to do and be able to enter the kingdom of god. But for man, all of what is called doing is just happening. For example, a simple exercise, take the serious aim to focus one’s attention on the second hand of clock for one minute while not allowing a single thought. Try this without lying to oneself about the results and you have real data about the ability to do. To seek, to enter, to change and other admonitions are all doing, but in order to do much is required of a man. For without a certain preparation all attempts lead to imagination. It goes without saying if you are satisfied in life don’t bother. But if you are sufficiently dissatisfied, find a forth way school to practice awakening, begin the path to knowing oneself and doing. Check out P.D. Ouspensky 'Psychology....' and 'In Search...'

A challenging book with a promise of growth towards personal wholeness and personal completion. Although he stretches the meaning of scripture sometimes incredibly this remains a great psychospiritual classic
