Miserable NVMe performance even compared to previous gen, and pay more too.
So a few months back I purchased a $170 S12 unit for some small tasks and file sharing. I was disappointed to find out that the branded components like Corsair memory had been replaced with their own OEM AZW brand, but whatever, let's benchmark. I wasn't expecing all that much but was still pleasantly surprised to see disk read and write speeds around 530MB/s and 435MB/s.Fast forward to mid 2024 and I decided I wanted another one, at a different place, but figured I'd pay the $70 more for a better unit, the EQ13. Slightly better processor, a few more ports, but otherwise specs are the same, with their spec sheet claiming 600MB/s speeds. How wrong I was. Benchmark speeds are very close to exactly half of that, around 300MB/s. Yes, pay considerably more for barely more performance and half the storage speeds. Wonderful.I'm keeping it anyway. It's not a bad little box for its intended use and won't exactly need heavy disk IO anyway. But talk about a major slap in the face. Yes, their documentation does state plain as day that the device comes with SATA NVMe vs M.2 NVMe for the older S13, but it's the BOLD THROUGHPUT CLAIM that really stands out, which it absolutely does not even remotely approach. That's what we call deceptive marketing.

We replaced a desktop pc with this
The old pc finally died. We replaced it with this on the recommedation of our IT tech. Now we have two of these as we bought another for home use.
