Mindscape [DVD]

Mindscape comes close to being a wicked little psychothriller, with great performances from Mark Strong as the psychic memory investigator and his client, played by Tassia Fermiga. The convoluted story revolves around her troubled teenage character, and she’s neatly played as being innocent in one moment… somewhat sinister the next.Likewise, Brian Cox puts in a great supporting turn as the manipulator behind the scenes. We’re never quite sure if he’s helping Mark Strong get to the truth – or if he’s setting up his own investigator to take a very big fall.There are some genuinely tense and spooky moments in here (although it’s not a supernatural / horror movie, so no gory moments to avoid). The twisted timeline hops between memory flashbacks and the her-and-now, with the hero acting under increasing emotional pressure from his client, her parents and his own complicated situation.Some of the production is a little strange: this is a film stuffed full of English actors but they’re all pretending to be Americans (and some of them can pretend better than others). There’s a sophisticated narrative in here but some of the signposts are ridiculously blunt – like a handy file entitled ‘Anna’s Inheritance’, for instance. it feels as if a little more money and a little longer spent in development could have delivered a really excellent 5* film.As it is, this is an enjoyable evening’s rental entertainment. No special features on the disc we were sent.7/10

Fantasy story with a twist. Scares are moderate. Fair.

An interesting thriller which is well executed and which benefits from an excellent cast led by Mark Strong. Care is taken to develop atmosphere so that one can forgive an occasional weakness with the plot. Intelligently made and well worth a couple of hours of one's time on a wet afternoon or evening.

It was ok but I wouldn’t particularly recommend it to anyone.

Mark Strong is always watchable isn't he? I didn't expect too much from this film but it exceeded my expectations considerably. It left me with a few unanswered questions and clarity wasn't strong.The performance's were all good though and though its not a film to stay with you for long l film there are worse ways to spend two hours

I think Taissa F is a great actress and couldn't fault the other cast members, there was just something missing from this film. The ending was confusing as a lot of questions aren't answered and I guessed what was going on LONG before it happened. There were some great ideas here, but they just didn't feel fully developed.

This is actor mark Strongs first lead role in a movie and I enjoyed it. Its been sold as a horror film (the film cover doesn't help) which its NOT but a thriller.
