My son uses these both on his mini lathe and for general whittling and woodworking. He likes the different shapes and precise cut he can get from these. They work well and the handles are comfortable. These are well built and put together very sturdily. they are ready to go right out of the package and having a storage case to keep them all together has been very helpful.

I got these not for wood, but for clay. They're great for shaping, smoothing, and texturizing. The wooden handles are very comfortable and secure to hold. Great set.

This carving set is an excellent value for the money. There is a great selection of tools provided in the set. Each tool comes with a plastic cover. All the tools fit neatly in a zipper case. There is a bungee that secures all the tools in place. The kit also comes with a pencil, ruler, and a sharpening stone for the tools. The handles of the tools are very comfortable to use and provide you with great dexterity when you are carving. I noticed that a few of the tools came with a bit of a burr on the blade. That can easily be fixed with a file or using the sharpening stone. But some carving knives did not come ready to use with some repair work to get rid of the burrs. So, I have not been able to use them yet as I have not had time to do this repair work.

The carving knives are about 6" long with wooden handles and a shaped grip. Maybe the handles could be a little longer as, they are only about 4" L x 5/8" thick. The caps that cover the blades don't stay on very well. The metal blade edges are not all smooth with some burs on blade ends. The small zippered case could have been a little larger, with all the pieces inside, it has a tight fit. The carving knives are held in the case with overall soft elastic bands. It would have been better if each knife had it own elastic loop to hold it in place instead of loose and moving around risking dropping them everywhere. It comes with a pencil, sharpening stone and, wooden 6" ruler.

Secure handles and definitely quite sharp. This is not an expensive kit, but it does have everything you need to get start with wood carving. Or soap carving. Just wanted to state it works for that too. Kit is simple, easy to transport or store. I don't find any 'give' so far in the handles. I'm unsure how long the metal will remain sharp, but so far so good.For the price, if you are just starting out or just have a simple project, I think this will meet needs.

Bad sharpening job. Lots of nicks in the sharpened ends. I'm sure that's going to effect the performance of the tools when I try to use them and I'm not going to try and fix them...I'd hurt myself. I wish there was more pride in workmanship.

This is a nice set of hand carving tools for wood working. It has a good range of chisels, chipping knives, and u- and v-shaped gouges. The wooden handles are well-shaped for holding and maneuvering, although the finish on them is not perfectly smooth. The blades are set solidly in the handles and arrived sharp and ready to use. I especially like that each tool has a plastic cap to protect the edge. The knife set comes in a zippered carrying case and has an additional pencil, sharpening stone, and small ruler included. The case is almost a little small for holding the full set, but it does make it easy to store or transport the full set, and it gives me somewhere to toss the tool caps while I'm working so they don't roll away and get lost.

I've always wanted to try some little woodworking and whittling as a hobby, and when I saw this set I had to grab it. I was pretty impressed by the number of different knives in this set, each with a different size or shaped blade. I have no clue what most of them are used for, but I hope to learn as time goes on!So far they all feel comfortable in my hands, and are lightweight. Each blade has a plastic cover, and they all came in a nice little carrying case.Overall, very pleased with this set and can't wait to learn how to whittle wood blocks, carve soap and gourds!
