Quite Funny and Original but…
I found Matt’s writing quite original and funny. He has a real gift for a turn of phrase or image. He’s that mate who always has a funny story to share that has the whole group rolling with tears in their eyes from laughing. But…at some point corporate publishing weenie decided that Americans wouldn’t get the author’s jokes, so they decided that all the punch lines needed to be Americanized. The result is a jarringly abrupt series of obvious substitutions of American references in the middle of an obviously British narrative. They drop in the names of American tv shows, American cities and other random plug ins that do the book no service at all except leaving me counting the number of stupid replacements.

Too late for me, but still worth a read
I wish I had read this BEFORE my kids were out of diapers, but I still enjoyed it.

Hilarious and heartfelt
I originally bought this book for my husband about 4-5 weeks before we were expecting our first baby boy. I had heard some good things about it through friends, so I decided blindly to give it a shot without reading much about it first. Boy, were we happy. My husband laughed out loud frequently at the metaphors the author uses, the hilarious stories he tells about birth, visitors, feeding, etc., and loved the heartfelt moments he described after all of the chaos had settled. One of our favorite parts in the book is where the author details the experience of listening to a "hulk-like woman" scream down the hall of him and his wife and in the same chapter describe seeing his baby for the first time being like "his insides were taken out, scrambled up, and put back to be better."As a new parent, you're always concerned with doing the best and soaking in all kinds of advice. Sometimes there is unwarranted advice from friends and family that can get frustrating. This is not a book that gives you unwarranted advice. It gives you exactly what you need to hear. The book gives you an "everything will be alright" mentality and a sense of calm in the coming anxieties of being a new parent. You get so much advice thrown at your from each direction and this book just reminds you that you are a good parent and a good person with what you have. A new baby can be scary, but you can do it and it will be SO worth it.This book gave my husband such comfort and after he read it, I also read it and found myself feeling the same. I recommend this book to our friends and family who are also expecting (even my Comcast representative who was fixing my cable!), that I decided I should leave a review. I thank the author of the book for making new parenting such a time to look forward to.

Great read for first time parent
I bought this book because I will soon be a first time parent. While I was looking for maybe a little more of a formal book on what to expect, Matt’s take on the true down to earth way of what it’s really going to be like was more than I could have ever wanted. While I know parenting will be trying at times, I will now be ready to see more of the humor side in it.

Great book
Bought this a while ago for my husband as a prep-for-baby gift and never got around to writing a review. Shipping was super fast and the book was hilarious. Definitely recommend to first time parents to get a good laugh and take down the stress of parenting a little

So-so
So wanted to love this, and if I was a parent of young children still I probably would. But alas I’ve been there and done it and the book just didn’t hit the mark.

Funny nice gift
Offered that to a friend (new daddy!) and he loves it! He is so excited to read it and even his spouse wants to read it!

Experience of fatherhood of a random guy, it does not offer nothing really interesting
Experience of fatherhood of a random guy, it does not offer nothing really interesting and the humor is not really funny but full of curses.

Hilarious! A must read for the first time parent.
Although I bought this book as a Father's Day gift for my spouse, I read it and it was hilarious. I laughed out loud a couple of times. It's quite well-written and an easy read.
