you should put a plywood floor (1/2" or 3/4") in it to help stabilize it in addition to staking it in the provided grommets on the ground tabs. That is what I did.

Q: fabric wear: Fabric seems to be failing after about 8 months. Large tears appearing at stress points wind related. Why such a short life ?

We have 2 bike tents...one is close to our home in the backyard and the other stands free. And we have had considerable winds..but no damage like you described in your situation! Maybe Amazon will replace it for you!

Probably. I use mine as my camping kitchen when camping. My Yeti Tundra 65 fits with still enough width to fit gallon jugs of water in front of the cooler with room to spare

no idea, or sue a narrow tomato stake, or something like that.
